I am contemplating on trading my barely used XDM 3.8 .40 Bi-Tone in for this brand new Beretta PX4 Storm http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/52/products_id/18156. Before I do the trade I wanted to get your guys opinions on whether its worth it or not. My XDM only has about 100 rounds or less through it and still looks brand new. The only mods it has is a Pachmayr rubber grip.

One of my good friends has the PX4 in .40 and i have shot it many times. All i can say is that i was not a big fan of it. Obviously that is MY OPINION only and if you want to make the trade go for it. I do not own a XDM and never have (i have shot it before though). I liked the XD a lot more than the PX4, i found it to be much more accurate and a better fit for MY HAND. I am a pretty decent shooter and the PX4 was the least accurate pistol i have ever shot, (i live by the term of - it is the indian not the arrow) but i could not come close to a decent grouping with it.

I actually have a Beretta 92, so i dont have an issue with Beretta just didnt like the PX4. Good luck with your decision.

I would be trading in on a .40 PX4 Storm. I don't know what it is about this XDM, but I'm not as crazy about it as I am my other guns. That's why I've barely shot the thing.

I personally think the PX4 is fugly... I'd keep the XDM. I do own (and enjoy) a Stoeger Cougar, so I'm used to the rotary barrel concept.

But that's ME, any reason you don't like the XDM?

I don't really like the way it fits in my hand, it feels really weird to me. Maybe it's because the majority of rounds I've shot have been though a Sig. I'm also not as accurate with it as I am with other handguns I've shot.

Seems like a mistake to me, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

For a striker fired gun, the XD's are about as accurate as it gets.

Course, they ain't no SIG or 1911 though.

If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. Give the PX4 a try, see if you can rent it somewhere. I certainly like the rotary barrel design even if I think the PX4 is ugly, it's very accurate in my experience.

I've been very happy with my PX4 (9MM), about 2500 rounds, zero issues.

Not familiar with your XDM.

Just make sure you get a thorough test run with the PX4 before you take the loss on the gun you have. I've known die-hard Beretta guys who bought PX4s and then put them on the "Used" shelf right quickly.

Well after finding out it will cost me an extra $50 on top of my trade to get the PX4, I may just keep the XDM and try to get used to it.

Keep the XDM

I've looked into trading in my glock before for something a that fit my hand different, but was appalled by the low trade in value. With as many options as there are out there, I would try to get different handles or a mag extension (for any whose compact is too small). I've been nothing but impressed with my XDM. Here is a vid of the comparison between my glock and XDM=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX7BYn8G8rA

or look for a sig 229 .40; my xdm is fs and fits well for me; the beretta just doesn't fit. if i were to trade the "m", i might think something more exotic like a walther.

I think the px4 is ugly like others mentioned...but so are my glocks and the XDm I currently have up for sale IMO. I'm trying to like the XDM, but it isn't working out for me. I ran my 400th round through it today and I'm tired of wasting money on it when I know there are other things that I do like out there.

Personally, I'd sell anything (on the forums here) before I ever even thought about trade it in.

I wasn't a big a fan of my XDM either and got rid of it. One of the worst fits for me personally. No idea why, it never felt right.

Keep an open mind. I never thought I'd fall in love with Glocks but that is exactly what has happened. I bought and sold a ridiculous number of guns over the last few years in search of the perfect pistol for myself. It was there all all along I just never even bothered to try it because I just decided I didn't like Glocks. Now I'm enjoying a large serving of crow.

Try a bunch and pick the one that feels right regardless of preconceptions, looks, name etc. You'll fall in love with the one that feels right and you shoot well. The coolest looking, most awesome seeming gun will be a letdown if it's not a shooter in your hands.

I have a PX4 and love it. I'm more concerned with personal fit, reliability, and accuracy than if people think my gun is 'fugly'. It's a tool. I don't especially care how my ratchet set looks either.

That said, I don't think its ugly at all, and the XDM is a pretty good pistol even though id choose Beretta, Smith, and FN over it

I got rid of my XDM and kept my PX4 and have NO regrets. Thats me though. Both are good guns, I just prefer my Beretta.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.

Trade it for the Beretta.
There's no use trying to get used to a weapon that just doesn't work well for you.

FWIW, I also had a XD (an XD45 Tactical) and too traded it away.
I just didn't care for the trigger, and it was one of my less accurate handguns.

I think I've changed my mind on the PX4 because I'm not sure on how it looks. I may just sell my XDM and look into an FNP-40 USG.

I think glocks are ugly. The px4 has some good lines on it but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In my experience, the px4 9mm had significantly less recoil than my 92f and was a bit more accurate using the same reloads. Its funny because I consider the 92 series to be very soft shooters and I'm a pretty good shot with my 92f.

I don't know that I agree psyshack. Why force yourself to adjust to a gun that doesn't fit you when there are so many options - one of which is bound to fit any given shooter.
