My first handgun: Sig Sauer SP2022 9mm (pics)

Good choice. You got a German framed gun which is a plus IMHO. Dry firing without the snap caps is not an issue. Fire away!

Mags are hard to find. CDNN often has them IIRC for about $30.

I have the same gun. I have yet to find ammo it doesn't like but my experience isn't extensive -- yet.

I always feel like the SP2022 is the forgotten Sig. Let us know how it works out for you!

How does the finish look on the slide. Is it glossy? If so it is Iffalon not Nitron. Looks like it is a triple serial number gun. Does it have German proof marks on the slide near the serial number?

Anyway I love my SP2022. The DA is a little longer than traditional P series Sigs but it is smooth and the SA is right where it needs to be IMHO. They are a great value. Good first choice for a gun.

I have its slightly bigger brother, a 2340 Blueline originally chambered in .40 that I shoot in .357 SIG. The frame is made in Switzerland. The gun has been a solid performer with 100% reliability and very good accuracy. Based on my 2340 I wouldn't hesitate to acquire a 2022.

I have shot SIGs for 25 years and while I might be tempted to be a SIG purist I have nothing but respect for the SigPro series.

Very nice...I have and carry a Sig P225. I have shot the P2022 a decent amount as a close friend of mine has one for his duty weapon. Never found any ammo it would not shoot, even cheap gun show re-loads.

Why don't I own one??

My father just got his last friday. We took it out on Saturday morning. This was my fathers first semi auto pistol. His only other handgun is a .22 revolver. Im unsure of the make.

Anyhow. He was very pleased. The double action pull was extremly long but im sure it will lighten and smooth out with some range time. He ran 200 rounds of WWB and 50 of Federal Hydroshock. Not a problem.

Compared to the 2022 that i used to carry at work, his seemed to have an extra step in the assembly steps. The inserting the take down pin before pulling slide to rear. This i didnt remeber doing before. Any who he loves this gun and is happy he spent the extra money on night sights.

As for dry firing, it won't hurt it. However, if you plan on doing an extended dry fire session, I'd go ahead and toss one in there just to be safe

From your pics, it looks as if you have the Iffalon slide, which is the 2022 that also comes with night sights, which I also see in your pics. Great gun, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Had a blast shooting my friends!

Also, as far as I have seen, the basic version of that gun with steel sights is not stamped as a German made frame

I have that model on my list to buy. It's the perfect combo of plastic frame lightness, Sig decocker, and good price. Just hard to find magazines...

You can get some pretty good cleaning supplies at Walmart. I would completely clean and oil the gun before I took it shooting to get out any metal particles that may be left in there from the factory. I like to spray the internals with Break Free first and give them a good wipe down with a microfiber cloth because they're soft and trap a lot of dirt. Then I run a couple cotton swabs soaked in Hoppe's 9 through the barrel until one comes out clean. Then I just lightly lube everything with gun oil, put it back together and your good to go. Good first gun purchase BTW, I'm picking up my Sig SP2022 tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait!

I'm not sure, I got it brand new from BudsGunShop.com and I'm picking it up from my FFL tomorrow. I guess I will find out then.

I swore off plastics, but something about this one made me buy it. Love the feel from gun shows and shops. Bought off gunbroker and is on the way to my FFL.
Hope I love it as much as I think.
