Best Vehicle Handgun?

I don't advocate the Judge for much of anything, but I do think this is the only role where the Judge shines. Loaded with 000 buck or PDX-1, it truly is impressive out to seven yards. Perfect anti-carjacking gun. Youtube hickock 45's video on it.

THIS IS A REALLY DUMB IDEA.
I disagree. I've done it for close to 40 years as does most who have CCWs here. Very few who have CCWs carry on their person but almost all have vehicle carry guns. This isn't a "one size fits all" situation. Circumstances and environs differ and vehicle carry is the most effective for me and those in my area.

High humidity?

Maybe you should think through the humidity problem a little. If this sits in the truck without being used in a high humidity area, how reliable does the ammo become? I go through it quickly so I couldn't say but it seems to come up now and again...

If you live in the South, a metal frame pistol will get hotter than 40 H..L's if left in your truck. I carry a plastic gun for that reason.

I think the idea of a car gun is silly. There's no point in leaving a gun in your car 24/7, except convenience. Carry it when you need it, take it out when you get home. The gun I keep in my car, when that's all I need it for, is the same one I use for CC (Kahr pm9) and sometimes the same one I use for HD (S&W M&P45). It's also kept in a locked case that's attached by steel wire to the seat.

If I'm concerned about someone thinking I'm carrying a large amount of money around with me, I think as far as handguns go, a Draco in 7.62x39 might be more appropriate..

But, unless you can carry the gun while walking into the bank (the greatest chance you have of being robbed) then it is not of much use. Also, if someone tries to attack you while you are in the car (and provided you are not boxed in), use the car as a weapon, it's much more effective than any handgun.

how bout an ak47 pistol?
I have several rifle caliber pistols, AK, Kel Tec PLR, AR pistol. I would use them as home defense and car guns except for one reason. They will destroy your ears if fired indoors or in a vehicle.

What would be wrong with the gun you normally use for your EDC/CCW?

I agree. The best place to have a gun, is on your person. If you are planning on leaving a "cheap" gun in your truck so you won't be out much if it is stolen, may I suggest that you consider the cost to the public with another stolen gun in circulation? Consider who that stolen gun might be used against.

Please, please, please do not store a gun in your truck, car, camper, boat, etc. The best reason to leave a gun in a motor vehicle is to arm career criminals.

You'd mentioned about "carrying" a Colt Lawman III, don't leave that in the car, if they know you have access to these kinds of firearms, they'll definitely be back! Leave that one in the house with the Python!

One of the all-steel milsurp semi-autos. As much as I love a revolver for reliability and firing out of position, I wouldn't want to angle one to point at my window if someone were approaching threateningly. The cylinder gap would be aimed right at my face, that's just too dangerous. Next best thing is a Makarov or one of the other combloc semi-autos chambered in Mak. Not too loud or high-pressure and plenty good enough for close quarters work.

When I drive to work I keep a Mak in my car, in a pocket holster. I'm not allowed to carry in my workplace (and yes, they DO have metal detectors...) but I don't like being unarmed if I need to run errands at lunch or on my way home. I can slip the Mak and pocket holster in my pocket and it becomes my carry weapon.

Gearhead, thanks for the thought on the cylinder gap with creative firing positions, that is a big plus for a semi auto. As to the logistics of my situation I did not want to post too many details for obvious internet reasons. I will say this much about the bank drop run, I have plenty of visibility (minimum of 200 feet) when leaving work and it is only about 40- 50 feet from the door to my trucks usual parking space, so ambush at that point is unlikely, drive to the bank is about 15 miles, with 4 or 5 traffic lights mostly 4 lane highway, bank drop box is at the drive through so no walking away from the truck there.

IMHO, this it he best use for polymer framed autos. Not because of the polymer frame but because the typical Melonite/Tenifer treatment basically rustproofs them. That and they're not something I get particularly attached to. They're soulless tools, unlike a fine Colt, USFA, Ruger or S&W sixgun or 1911. I started out with a Glock 21 for this purpose 15yrs ago and currently utilize a 5" Springfield XD .45 for that role.

I am now retired and no longer make the hour long drive to work. During the decades that I commuted to work at night,I travelled through some of the roughest areas Birmingham has. My employer and our customer (I worked on site)neither allowed firearms on their property. I was faced with keeping my firearm in my vehicle or going unarmed. Guess what I chose to do. I will continue to do so. I keep a CZ-82 in my truck,my wife keeps a Taurus 85UL in her console and our older daughter keeps her mom's S&W Model 36 in the glove compartment of her car. Both still work in Birmingham and both work in unsavory parts of town. They aren't allowed to carry either and discovery means termination. Make your own decision.

I am in that situation now accept in Atlanta Ga. I will continue to do so too.

S&W 5906 299.99

What are your thoughts?

A stainless revolver in 38spl or 357mag sounds ideal. Corrosion resistant, rugged, reliable, almost fail-safe. Load it up today and it'll still be ready to go a decade from now.

Then it will ricochet off the floor and kill the grizzly bear trying to get in the nearby window.
