Mauser K98 Magazine Question

The only detachable magazines for a K98 that I'm aware of is an aftermarket affair in 8x57(but it MAY work for.243)
I was afraid you were gonna say that. 
I found these which are what he has right now, but all I can find are long action.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the situation. Even Numrich, who offered them on www.gunbroker.com, shows the short action version as sold out.
All you can do is keep an eye out for one, or put a want ad in the rifle ad section of this site.

A short action cartridge will (generally) feed from a long action magazine but not vice-versa. I have a long action Model 50 (98) Argentine Mauser ,originally in 30.06,that is rebarreled to .308 Winchester(the parent cartridge of the .243) that feeds perfectly without any magazine filler.

I hate to see him spend 35 bucks just to find out it won't work, but that may well be his only choice.
When you load the mag do you load in any certain way, as in seated against the rear or the front or do they feed any way you load them in there?

I load my .308 Mauser as far back into the magazine as possible and it feeds perfectly. If I load it forward,it tends to bind a bit.
