awesome rifles, even swap with a friend for my bare bones m4 carbine with his austrian kit built on a imbel geared logo receiver and a plus matching barrel# with lower receiver

You learn them fast ... there aren't that many small parts to worry about... just got an 18" SA58 last week and I'm ironing out some kinks. Here is a decent link to show the breakdown process better than the manual:

and don't forget to check out the "FALfiles" website for anything else you might want to know.

I don't have one, nor shot one.

Why did so many of the Top Shot guys seem to hate them? (only saw half or so of that episode, but that is what I seem to recall)

If you have watched that comedy show you should know the answer...most are a bunch of whiners...

Here is my ORF built FAL...my favorite MBR.

The mistake I made on my first was that I didn't know about the Drunk Monkey division of Century Arms.

Select fire Belgium para trooper. Paid 2200 plus transfer tax in 86 ( right after the ban) Have 10 Belgium mags from 63 for it. This gun and a Russian milled ak with slab side mags are my zombie guns.

The FAL is great. I love mine. But the trigger sucks compared to an M1A and working on it is a pain. Put a Rader trigger in an M1A and there is no comparison at all.

BTW, the first FAL Saive built was in 7.9x33 Kurtz IIRC

The problem with both the FAL and the M1A is that they rely on 1940 construction - lots of machining operations, times threads, etc. It's a costly process, which is important if you are a military and looking to buy millions of rifles.

Have Williams Trigger Specialties do your FAL trigger and there is no comparison either, have the set trigger added and it is simply astounding.

I have had a SAR 48 for 15 yrs or so. The sights were so so and the trigger was horrible. The improvements in scope mounts and a lot of trigger work revealed a sub MOA hot gun using match grade ammo. It has hurt the feelings of more than several M1As.

I've had a fixation with a .308 battle rifle, and the FAL would've been my choice, just couldn't put that kinda cash out. I did put the PTR91 on layaway though. Looking forward to it big time. You guys have built some nice rifles, btw.

You're about 26 years too late to talk me into it. Back then all the clones weren't around, or at least I wasn't aware of them.

Iamkris
Its just A matter of A few parts. Mine is an Imbel with Izzy furniture and bolt handle, bolt modded to accept handle.

I have to add my picture.... This is in no way historically correct (atleast I can't find another 16" Israeli Para Type) It started life as an STG 58 Para.... Added the Scope mount, brass saver bag is a life saver by the way. Looks dumb, but now I do as I please whenever I please, and wherever I please and I keep all my brass to keep reloading away.
I added the Izzy LB hand guards after getting a good deal on them. I think they look cool and they're actually more comfortable. Sorry for the cruddy cell phone pic. I'll upload good ones soon.

What a fun toy

Yeah, if we'd gotten the FAL in .280 or the M-14 in .276, there would have been absolutely no reason to go with the .223 round... though an AR-10 in either of those calibers would be a pretty sweet rifle, too!

I'm a big M1/M14 guy, but I do want a nice FAL in the collection too. I have shot them plenty and really like them.

my FAL sa58 trigger is as good as my rem 700 (not trying to be funny here )

A seriously crisp 4-5 pound trigger, love it.

You can get ammo for around .40 right now. If you aren't being stupid about just blasting I think 50 rounds is plenty for 1.5-2 hours at the range.

Motega, I'm going to flat disagree. 50rds over 1.5-2hrs is precision rifle stuff. The FAL is not a precision rifle it's a battle rifle. My round counts average around 200 per range trip(3hrs). I don't think it's "being stupid about just blasting." I bought mine as a battle rifle and treat it as such. It is NOT a precision rifle by any means, and requires quite a bit of work to be one. So yes, ammo prices suck at about double AR15 prices but reloading makes it reasonable.

Please don't insult those of us who use the rifle as it was intended.
