Coins as targets

I can't find Necco wafers in the South. We used to have something similsr called "Candy Money" back in the 1960's but they are no longer avalable.

Coins don't hold up to .22LR federal bulk pack at 75 yds (neither quarters, dimes or pennies. Nickels do). Stingers, Mini-Mags and other HV rounds make short work of even nickles.

Use steel washers and shoot thru the holes in the middle.

Didn't James Garner do that in "Support Your Local Sheriff", or was it the other one, "Support Your Local Gunfighter"?

Looks like OP's question has been answered, but...
A metal sphere has a few advantages over a coin/disc.
1) no matter which way it turns, you're always looking at its broad side
2) more aerodynamic, so it will be steadier in the wind
3) it's shape is structurally stronger, allowing it to last longer

Strike Anywhere Kitchen Matches?

Aim for grazing the top of the white 'tip'?

In my youth, (a few years ago) I would set up a live 12gauge 7-1/2 shot shell on a target post and try to hit the primer with a .22 at 50-100 yards. I know not at all safe, but makes a fun reactive target. I have since resorted to 12 guage slugs with the slug removed. Hit the primer, set off the powder charge, still get the nice boom but no additional projectiles flying about at random.

I use paintballs on golf tees.

I tried it once. It was either a penny or a dime (can't remember which) stuck on the side of a stump. Coins make a very interesting noise flying back at you at a high rate of speed.

Dimes are not only expensive targets, but it's just a bad idea.
You won't find most of the ones you hit, and the rest will be bent all out of shape the first time you hit it.

Buy a bag of charcoal briquettes.
They are Biodegradable, and harmless to wildlife.
Interesting target at 50 yards.

And you can pick up the range trash when you get done and cook weenies.

I used to use those free AOL CD's that came in the mail 8 or 10 times a week. Throw 'em up in the air and shoot thru the hole in the middle. :D I don't think I could do that anymore without hitting the disk sometimes...

I save all the tops off milk jugs, soda bottles, and other like containers. Stand them up in a grooved board with several widths of groves cut with a table saw. then you can shoot them off or put holes through them. Stand up non reloadable brass and shoot them or stand up parts of old clay pigeons that have survived somewhat and poof them. If you put down a couple old sheets on the ground under the target area and weight down, cleanup is easy.:D

OK, much bigger than coins, but a guy on a local gun forum here in CO is making and selling these. I bought two, but haven't got to try them yet. They're 1/4" steel plate, for .22's only. Two identical plates, that fit together in the center, and uses a large cotter pin to hold them together. You hit the top disc, and it "tumbles". There's always a disc on top. He sells them bare steel, but one of the guys painted his up real purty.

They aren't very big, he ships three of them in one of those little $5 USPS Priority Mail boxes.
