Useless Firearms In Your Collection

My ruger super redhawk. Its fun to shoot but its not exactly carry-able, or practical at all.

Glock 19...I carry it for self defense and I've never had to defend myself. 1000's of rounds of ammo, hundreds of dollars in gear and all of that time practicing drill are completely wasted.

Or was it?

I don't consider any of them useless. :neener:

If it's useless then I don't own it! I alway buy/trade for a firearm with a specific purpose in mind. If it doesn't work as intended then it's gone.

All firearms are useful, even if never fired, for the simple fact that they add to the Machismo of your collection.

Even under those criteria my two Raven 25s are useless. I bought them for $80 for the pair out of impulse. Too weak for hd, too dangerous for carry (they're infamous for firing when dropped) and not really too much fun to fire. They basically exist as a part of my collection but I'm not proud of them. I might've sold them already if I weren't too apathetic to find someone willing to buy the pieces of crap.

By the definition of the OP most of my guns are useless.

I have Hunting rifles although I haven't hunted in years.
I have Hunting shotguns although I've not hunted in years.
I have a .44 Mag Revolver for a bear gun but don't normally carry while hiking.
I have 2 5.56 AR-15 clones configured as fighting carbines although I don't have a job related to firearms or compete with them.
I have 2 5.56 AR-15 clones configured for precision shooting although I don't hunt varmints or compete with them.
I have a 9mm AR-15 clone set up as a carbine as well.
I have several bolt action military rifles and carbines although I certainly don't use them for their intended purpose.
etc etc etc...

About the only thing I own that I use regularly for a 'purpose' (other than just enjoyment of shooting), are a S&W 638 and a Kahr CW9 that I use for concealed carry. No...I've not actually shot them to defend life and limb...but they do make me feel better!

Amen Brother, Amen

90% of my guns are unlikely to be used for "intended purpose" if that means I would pick them up in a self defense scenario. But I like to have them either because they are interesting (to look at or discuss with others) or else fun to shoot now and again.

Sure, my Mosins may be useless NOW, but I never know when I might have to fight off an advancing German hoard. And I'll need the CZ-52 for a back up sidearm in case I can't get to my NEF single shot 12 gauge. ;)

I have several guns that I seldom shoot, but I love them and provide them a good home. My favorite gun that I will never use for it's intended purpose is an 1813 Supermatch Anschutz .22, with an exhibition walnut stock and a 15X Unertl balanced on top. It is a great bench rest gun, but I shoot silhouette! Silhouette is limited to 10lbs and a few ounces, the 1813 is 16.5 pounds and a single shot. But she sure is purty!

You must have hit the nail on the head.

Even though there are a number of Enfield #4/Mk 2s in mint condition with picturesque blond wood, and some are still covered with cosmoline, they seem like works of art that are too beautiful to risk scratches or scrapes.

A few should be in the British Museum, Louvre etc. The Scots have one in the small military exhibit in Sterling Castle.

i have a s685 beretta but can't use it at my gun club because of a lawsuit. we won the suit (tried to shut us down) but the judge said we can't aim our guns higher then the berm, even though i would have a hard time reaching it with a slug.

Who defines intended use? I have a Jennings .380, a Remington 522 Viper, and 2 High Point pistols whose intended use is giving to the authorities if they ever decide to collect everyone's firearms while claiming I sold all the others. I have a 5.56 AR whose intended use is burning ammo fast because it makes me grin. I have a pistol grip shotgun whose intended use is hanging on that nail in the bedroom closet just in case my handgun laying on the night stand doesn't do the job. I have a High Point carbine whose intended use is punching holes in paper. I could keep going on and on. I guess the only ones I use for hunting when I very seldom do so would be my 6.8 AR, My old pump 22, and my pump 12 gauge. For personal defense any or all of them might be used if the situation warrants, but of course none have been used that way. I guess my intended use is to satisfy my urge to own things that go bang, All of them (save the Jennings) occasionally serve that purpose :D

The 4-barrel .22 Chicago Derringer in the closet isn't very useful. My dad got it back in 1979 when I was in a high school play and needed to shoot blanks. He didn't want to waste cash on a prop gun. A 15 year old fired blanks from a real firearm in high school production on a stage inside an elementary school. No one went to jail or a mental hospital. Times were different.

Anyway, I still have the little pistol.

FN 5.7,I like the gun but it is expensive to shoot and for sd Id use the 9 40 or 45 and if I need to shoot over 100 yards with a handgun ill grab the 460, if I need a 30 round rat gun I would use the p30 (and hopefully a pmr30 someday if keltec wakes up before everyone says to hell with them) since ammo costs about a third what 5.7 does so I wouldnt say useless but very close
Also a clerke 1st but thats just because I value my hands and that thing is a pile I would say its truly worthless.
And a phillipino ar15 training gun chambered in 22lr, the bolt is wore out and sometimes it goes through the clip in full auto, or at least till the extractor falls out

I have a Marlin .30-30 lever gun. I don't hunt, and if I did, I live in IL which is not a rifle state.

I feel the .30-30 is one of those quintessential American rifles, and I had to have one. I think I've taken it out and shot it twice.

I probably won't get rid of it, just because I like owning one.

I have just recently sold off some guns that I didn't shoot, they weren't useless but my taste in guns has changed.

I would rather have 1 nice gun that I shoot, than 2 that just sit there.:)

A sporterized, Remington made Mosin 91. There is no redeeming feature on the gun as the stock was not originally intended for this gun and had to be finagled in; the military rear sight was removed and a dovetail was cut into the receiver so a undersized folding leaf could be "fitted"; and the bore had not been cleaned for decades after running corrosive ammo through it. Why I bought it I'll never know but it may have had something to do with the $20/obo price tag hanging off it.

I have a 45-70 but I don't hunt, yet!. I wanted a bigger caliber so I got one. I plan to take it out everytime i go to the rifle range. Its fun to shoot.
