Started a job at a gunshop.

A couple of weeks ago I was making the rounds at the local gun/pawn shops looking for something I couldn't live without, and to my surprise one of the shops offered me a part-time job.

I'm a disabled vet with lots of time on my hands and lately I've been bored out of my mind. I called the VA and Social Sec. who told me I could work a part-time job. It feels great to be a part of the work force again, although it is taking some getting used to.

I only work 2 1/2 days a week (20 hours) and make $250 a week, but the money is not really an issue (it is nice though). So far I work mainly in the back straightening up the gun items, doing minor repairs, and occasionally working the counter. I prefer working in the back, but interacting with customers has proven to be very interesting. They run from first time gun buyers to old collectors and arrogant <deleted> to respectful and polite.

In less than two weeks I've repaired three handguns (two Keltecs with loose ejector springs and a Para with a stubbornly stuck mag) and two shotguns, one was re-building a Mossberg from just a frame and mag tube.

One of the bad things is seeing many guns that I want, yet cannot afford them and seeing many guns broken that are too expensive to repair for re-sale.

I haven't asked about an employee discount yet, as I have two guns on layaway at two other gunshops, but I'm pretty sure there is one.

I already spend a large chunk of my money on guns, ammo, mags, ect., now it looks like I'll be spending it mainly in one store.

The downside of working in a gunshop appears to be that working with guns is starting to become a chore, but atleast it's not boring.

Today I did my first background check on a customer (actually two, both passed). The procedure is pretty straight forward, pretty much reading right off the 4473. Just have to triple check that the form is fully filled out and correct, easypeasy.
