Will Ruger P-95s eat anything?

The P95 has a reputation for reliability; any JHP from a reputable ammo manf. will probably be just fine.

as my personal rule of thumb on any untested arm i give a 50/50 chance for the first CHAMBERED round , anything after that is by the grace of god

If the gun has been tested to be working IN GENERAL (ie, you know that there's not broken firing pins or weak springs that will cause it to misfire regardless of round type), then it's typically known to feed pretty much anything.

I wouldn't want to really rely on it without testing the specific ammo though.

Yeah I'd say you're probably safe.

I will say that out of the 4 zillion P-series 9mm's (85/89/93/95) that have been made and sold, they haven't developed a reputation for not eating any particular type of ammo.

That being said, I've had one problem with quality SD ammo (Golden Saber's) in my P89, and it was 100% the ammo (hard dent in the primer, and it fired on the second strike), an it was only one round out of that box (everything else, including other batches since of GS's, has been fine).

Consider this: your chances of needing a home defense weapon are slim, the chances of needing a home defense weapon in the next couple of weeks are even slimmer than that. Your chances of a bad ammo problem (with a pistol famous for reliability) within the VERY slim chance you need it in the next two weeks are minute.

If the pistol's been reliable (i.e. no problem with the pistol itself),Load the thing with SD ammo, load magazine #2 w/ball and go on your merry way.

My P-95 eats everything.

You do still need to test-fire it, and break it in at the first opportunity.

I've had exposure to two brand new P95s. One ran great without a hiccup. The other was finicky and had feeding issues with any magazine used. It was a while back though so i don't recall which specific ammo was being used but it was FMJ so that is not a guarantee of reliable performance.

Mine REALLY didn't like aluminum cased Blazer ammo.

We have a pair of older P95 pistols, one a KP-95. They have eaten anything that would fit into the chamber. That includes gaping JHP, JSP, and FMJ, even of unknown provenance. Like the +P+ Sub-gun ammo.

I have an older P95 that I absolutely love. It is more accurate than any other Ruger I have owned and functions 100% of the time. My only fault with it is the old models have very slick frames. I prefer the new textured frame. Try it out as soon as you can but I would not feel completely uncomfortable carrying it until then.

How do P95s do with steel case ammunition?

I can't speak for the P95, but my P93 (same slide w/ aluminum frame) will feed any 9mm ammo I give it...
