Got my nephew one of the Case BSA knives. It is a nice knife, they hold an edge well, and are well made. I am not a believer that everything in the past is always better. Stainless does have advantages!
Smoky Mountain Knife Works has the 2009 and 2010 Remington Boy Scout reproduction knives on sale for $59.95 each; a substantial savings, as Remington product is typically priced over $100 because it's collectible. Each one comes with reproduction box and advertisement posters; the knives are reproductions of 1924 versions.
The current standard scout knife is now a China made stainless knife (not sure what shop makes it). I got to handle one the other day and while the build is competant, I don't feel the materials and craftmanship is up to par compared to even the old knock-off scout knives from the good ol days (like the Imperial made carbon steel Kamp-King).
I've got an old Camillus BSA Ulster as well as the 2 bladed Whittling knife with BSA logo by Camillus.
Is the whittler particularly collectible?
It's not my daily carry knife but it does get a fair bit of use.
I scored 2 off the bay the German Schmict one was real clean and just needed some lube. The Kamp King was rusty and took a days worth of careful cleaning to get it back in shape. I soaked it over nite in Eds Red and used JB Bore Cleaner and some nail files to get the rust out. The I blew it out and soaked it with CLP over nite and wiped it down and sharped the leather punch and blade this morning.
