Well I figure now is as good a time as any to finally post and stop lurking! This will be my entry for Magnified Sporting

Rifle: Glenfield 60
Optic: Barska 3-9x40mm
Ammo: 38gr Remington Subsonic 22lr

This was my first time with the subsonic ammunition, and I am quite pleased with how it performed. And I am never disappointed by this handy little rifle. It is capable of much more than I can do, but sometimes I get lucky. Today was just about perfect conditions in the High Desert of Central Oregon and after 5 targets and almost running out of ammo this is the best score I could post.

10's - 3
5's - 13
4's - 4

Total Score: 111

P.S.~ I know the gun is purple....it's technically my wife's gun and she made me do it :banghead:

Welcome to THR and the Rimfire Match, theSHADOEknows! Well done, I see that this is your first post, but can tell it isn't your first outing with a rifle.

P.S.~ I know the gun is purple....it's technically my wife's gun and she made me do it
No worries...we accept all kinds of folk here. :p :neener:

I would love to try these targets out, unfortunately, my local ranges do not allow man shapes targets or silhouettes....

That is stupid. Maybe you can just square off each silhouette at the head area and fill it in with black marker, and just score them on the printed lines as normal?

+1, ridiculous rule. It would be perfectly acceptable (from my standpoint) for you to shade in the area with a dark marker (preferably trying to keep the dividing line visible) or simply putting a sheet of paper in front of it and marking the relative locations on the "regulation target" beneath (that way they can't see those awful man-shaped targets ).

Next time, we'll design our own "politically correct target" (< can't believe I just typed those words side-by-side) for any future position type matches.

:)

They don't allow any silhouettes?

The range I go to allows silhouettes like these:

but prohibits ones like these:

They also frowned on the printouts of Che Guevara I was about to make holes in. They're ok any silhouettes that don't have a face though. Guess I'm lucky they allow shooting from pretty much any position as long as you hit the berm too. Why in God's name wouldn't they let you shoot standing, kneeling, or prone?

I too am unable to participate because the only range within 30 minutes of me that is more than 50 feet requires that you be sitting at the firing line (its a county operated range in new york)

You can't even stand? :uhoh: I can (somewhat) understand prohibiting prone and even kneeling, but no standing? Jeez, is there a dress code too?

:)

Fortunately I can wear what I please :). Standing is sometimes allowed...depending on which range officer happens to be there on that day...:banghead:

I need to find myself a private club to shoot at.

Well if that gentleman is present feel free to shoot "Kneeling" from the standing position, and "Prone" while seated (or standing if you like).

I didn't realize that this many people would have the problems with the positions and targets...we'll try to select a better target (and rules to go with it) next month.

:)

Shot a 123 in sporting non-magnified this weekend. Will post target when I get home.

The Mrs. Shot a 104 in the same category. I used a Marlin 795 and Federal bulk ammo. She used a Marlin 60 and Winchester 555 ammo. She shot better without a sling, I shot better with a sling, FWIW.

I tried again today, but didn't fair much better than last time. Still lots of fun.

Good luck all!

Gettin' all fancy now, are we? :p
Tryin' to. A buddy (that has some Photoshop skills) created that for me...I just edit it for each update/new match.

BTW, welcome back, Gavin*! Where ya been?...I haven't seen you around much in the past year or so.

*For all the folks that don't already know, Gavin here (with the help of FlyinBryan IIRC) was the founder of the match. I just managed to bumble my way though after he got too busy to keep up with it (went off "somewhere" to college if memory serves me).

:)

Thanks for instigating the Rimfire Match gvnwst.
It's a good excuse to get to the shooting range more often!

I tried the target this weekend Maverick, offhand standing & sling-only prone, ('Old Reliable' lawntractor is working fine now).
My results wouldn't put me in the running for this month's grand prize, but I plan to try again!
It's good practice with deer season only 4-1/2 months away. :D

They look like ketchup bottles to me. :)
I don't understand why the pc crowd would have a problem with people shooting at these!

OK, photos of my target and that of the Mrs.:

ETA: Hers was shot with a Marlin 60, iron sights, Winchester 555 ammo.
Mine was shot with a Marlin 795, iron sights, and Fed. bulk ammo.

Usagi,
that is some top notch shooting posted by yourself and Mrs. Usagi!

Thank you.

I keep trying to tell her that she is an excellent shot, but she just won't buy it. When she was shooting this at the range this weekend, there was a group of folks not too far away that included about 5-6 ladies. Many of them were shooting for their first time (possibly their second or third trip). Their collective mouths were agape as Michelle (Mrs. Usagi) shot her strings, side-by-side with me... with obviously similar results.

I just like how my wife's prone shots on the 500-yard target are better grouped than mine. :) Even she couldn't deny that one!

I can't seem to get a target set up lately much less shoot at it.
Same here. Either too darn busy, or too darn hot...and most often it's been both. :banghead:
