Advice on the Ruger 1911

The Ruger 1911 is very well made. Ruger does know how to make a gun or two. For the price point may possibly be the best in the business. Gun feel very well made. Keep them oiled and they will last a lifetime!

SR1911 very good

I picked up one yesterday. This gun is very well made. Fit and finish is very good. After cleaning and lube I went to the range and shot 100 rounds. No problems. Accuracy shooting from a rest was also good. Some people just don't like Ruger but if it's as good as my Security Sixes, that will be good enough.

In my experience, if a handgun is going to be a "lemon" it will exhibit problems far before even 100 rounds. In two cases I am familiar with ;) the problems started with the second shot. :banghead:

Stationary rest, or a machine rest? A machine rest allows the gun to recoil and move freely and also swings up from underneath the bottom of the grip - the epitome of "limp wristing."

I would want to fit a non extended/snag proof teardrop thumb safety on it and maybe lower profile night sights. I like no FCS, series 70, and GI recoil setup. Investment cast frame from Pine Tree Castings are well known for their strength and uniform heat treatment.

My new Ruger has never jammed with over 500 rounds. I tried to get it to jam with limp wrist, hollow points, flat nosed rounds and couldn't get her to hick up. Rugers got a a winner here and at a bargain price for all the goods you get.

my wife's will feed any round i put in it, and from any magazine i've tried as well. Stuff that won't work in my American Classic doesnt even slow the Ruger down.

I don't know where the warning language posted above came from. The example I looked at only had an unobtrusive two line warning.
There is a frequently asked question on gun forums, "What do you do with your gun in the men's room?"

Well, if it's a Ruger, you can sit there and read it.:D

The local gun shop here has the SR1911's backordered and I have to wait a while before mine gets here. I put myself on the waiting list though.

I'm hoping that I made the right choice by making a shot in the dark and ordering one.

Every Ruger I've had has always been tough, and reliable. I expect this one to be no different when it arrives.
