problem would be in finding a reliable squirter that would not leak out in your pocket

Yes. And in addition to that it should be fast and accurate also. You want that sauce flying in less than two seconds, and eyes are a very small target area - especially if you are shooting from the hip.

Good question Mike. I would also like to know the answer.

Oh, I use a lot of hot sauce. I might happen to have hot sauce around if I was suddenly attacked. By. Um, the ninjas. :scrutiny:

My point was that we should be prepared to use not only dedicated defensive tools, but anything in our environment to assist in keeping us safe. So, hot sauce I might have, but not so much on the needles.

The only problem I see, in this day and age of the bad guy winning a lawsuit in a court of law against someone who was merely trying to protect themself at the lowest cost possible, is a court ending up ordering the victim to make some ridiculously-huge monetary payment just because they mixed up some "concoction."

With all due respect, I think it would be better to spend a few extra dollars on something that is designed to quickly incapacitate the assailant. Then, if the assailant wants to sue anyone, he can sue the company that made the spray.

Organic or regular? And homemade or mass produced? I would go for mass produced regular, because all those additives might actually help incapacitate the attacker in less time.

hso,

Solid theory

I've heard of women carrying oven cleaner in their purses in areas where pepper spray is illegal. I don't know how effective it would be in stopping an attack but I would hate to get that stuff in my eyes.

I would prefer not to carrying anything that was likely to be instantly damaging if it should get into my eyes. Accidents happen.

That's a mistake. Oven cleaner actually DISSOLVES eye tissue. It's not that a true BG doesn't deserve such treatment... but the legal ramifications are immense.

If you throw homemade salsa into someone's eyes, the prosecutor will argue that you specifically formulated your salsa to cause as much damage as possible and you WILL go to jail. My buddy who's a cop told me this. Stick to factory salsa.

I also clearly recall having one break open in my front pocket while I was riding my purple stingray bike home from the 7-11, I was embarrassed because it looked like I peed in my pants!
I think there's better homemade solutions than water pistols.

Wow!! You've told that lie so long long that you actually believe it! :neener:

I had a bright blue metallic one with white seat and had sparkles in it!! I was all that!!!

Whatever you use it needs to appear spontaneous as if you just grabbed up the nearest thing rather than using any premeditation of forethought. For example, if you were suddenly attacked out in your yard and it was Summer time, you would have a plausible reason for having a can of wasp spray in your hand at the time.
Back when I worked in a bar I always kept the butt end of a 2 piece pool cue close by in case I needed a weapon. The reason that I chose a pool cue rather than a purpose made weapon like an Asp was in case I had to hit some thug who tried to sue me. It would look better in court because it was something common to a pool room and it would not look planned.

The same should go for ammonia- it's a weak base but could damage the eyes especially if concentrated. Has anyone ever seen the Highschool chemistry lab safety demo where they fry an egg, then drop another egg in concentrated acid/base? A change in pH in your eyes (ouch) will denature the sensitive proteins there just like a change in heat will denature those in an egg.

I hardly think ammonia, concentrated or not, in a squirt gun, is an effective SD tool, or an ethical one.

Invest in a real Super Soaker. Those crappy clear plastic deals leak everywhere, not just at the muzzle.

See if you can find one of the vintage Super Soaker 20's. They were compact, and used constant pressure instead of the pump trigger found on those cheap models.

They took the CPS2000 off the market after some kid blew his eye out with one. It lobs about a liter of fluid per shot with enough force to have recoil. I wouldn't want to get hit by one filled with bug spray or cleaning concentrate.

:p

That last part is actually true- snorting snuff was a much older generations' "cocaine".

If I used hot sauce, it would be spontaneous- I would be using a firearm if I was prepared to be attacked!

Dude, mine was a 3-speed with banana seat that my dad bought for me at Sears. Rode it everywhere. Yes I remember it clearly.

Wasp spray for self defense is a bad idea. It is a myth! Stick with the Pepper Spray. Wasp spray is unproven and has never been tested on humans. Wasp Spray will NOT work on those who cannot feel pain i.e. drugs or alcohol. Pepper Spray is an inflammatory which will cause the eyes to slam shut no matter the situation. That’s why over 40,000 law enforcement agencies carry it nationwide and even the smallest canisters will fire 10 ft while the larger canisters will fire 25 to 30 ft. It is also legal in all 50 states!

while ill agree that one should stay away from wasp spray......but its not because its ineffective.

and while ive never been sprayed.....or have had to use it.....it contains some real nasty chemicals which im sure burn pretty bad.

as for your claims that its ineffective on people who cannot feel pain.........well......neither does pepper spray.....there are more than a few LEOs who will tell you that they have sprayed people and had little to no effect.
