Is there any free place that's legal to shoot handgun in NC, around Raleigh/Durham? I searched all shooting ranges in the area but the cost for me and my wife is quite high each visit and annual membership is very costly, we saved some cash for the handgun and ammo, but adding each range visit cost this is too much

thanks

Unless you know a land owner that would let you shoot on their property there are no free firing ranges that I know of. There are the indoor ranges but nothing is free as you have noted. Outdoor range there is the http://www.sirwaltergunclub.com/ it’s not free either. If you lived in the Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point area I could point you in the direction of an outdoor range with minimal yearly dues of $50.00 that’s open Friday noon till sunset Sunday.

I'm a member of Sir Walter, and would be happy to have you go with me if we're neighbors. Sunday morning is usually when I go. That way I avoid most of the matches, because the ranges are pretty much in use when a match is going on up there.

Can you PM me your location?

thanks for the reply, we live in cary, we don't mind driving for an hour or so, $50 annual fee will be something we can do, any pointers will be appreciated

thanks for the reply and offer, we live in cary. I checked sir walter they charge $150 per year plus new member $50, that's kinda too high for us.

not to go OT but my son lives in High Point. An inexpensive outdoor range would be useful to him and his wife. My wife's family has a farm near Locust that I occasionally take friends too. It's too hot in July to go but toward fall PM me and I'll try to meet a few new friends.

Hi ns66!

What's the name of the outdoor range in the Triad? I'd like to go check them out.

i haven't been any, i just google "shooting range cary nc" and you get a list of them

For the poster asking about High Point, Shane's sporting clays is nearby but that's clays only. I'd recommend Caliber's for an indoor range nearby. I'm not aware of any rifle ranges that aren't a fair drive from the Triad (1+ hours).

I've never been, and it's not exactly free, but I've heard that the Wake County Range is a pretty nice public range and it's not too far from Cary.

Grapevine

Its not free, but again, it isnt expensive either. They charge by the lane, so for $10/hr you and your wife could both shoot. Very nice range, run well. Pretty close to Cary as well. There are NO free, outdoor shooting ranges anywhere near the triangle. If you fine one, let me know.

If you want to start shooting competitively, there are quite a few more options of places to shoot. PM me if interested.

Drakes Landing!!!!
Amazing place cant recommend any place more highly!! went last weekend and it was amazing... they have a rifle range two pistol ranges and its only 20 bucks an hour.
great people there too, always friendly. range master allowed me to shoot his stainless 1911 with his ammunition! open to the public no safety test required just a quick rule going over and your shooting..located in Fuquay Varina..http://www.drakelanding.net

forgot to mention that they have many other things such as sporting clays and a archery course just check the link and see for yourself
