My LGS has a Tangfolio TZ 75 (imported by FIE) in 9mm for $299.50

Is this a decent price? Anyone have some knowledge about this gun, good, bad, otherwise? Pros/ Cons?

I like the look of it.

Stay away from any the other CZ75 importers, stick with CZ only. A lot of the other cz clone importers no longer exist and often change hands, making waranty work or parts availability a hit or miss issue. Quality has also been an issue.

You can get a new cz75 for $499 right now.

I have one, and it shoots well. I like it. As posted, if you get close to CZ money, get a CZ. I am on the lookout for a good deal on a CZ75 myself. Love my CZ 97. :)

Loved my old Tanfoglio, funny thing is I bet the people telling you to stay away from clones have probably 0 experience with them. Tanfoglio makes good stuff. But if it gets close to CZ money I agree, but the price you quoted is not.

A TZ is the SAME gun as a small frame (first import) EAA Witness, and contract build Jericho's. Tanfoglio BUILDS the guns EAA imports.
otherwise it isn't a great price for used one, but it's not a bad one either.

The FIE TZ-75 was an early "clone" of the CZ-75.
At that time, the CZ was still a Communist country product so it couldn't be imported into the USA.

To meet a demand for the design, the Italian company of Tanfoglio Brothers started making fairly close copies.
The early guns had a slide mounted safety instead of the original CZ frame mounted design.

Over the years, the Tanfoglio company was the driving force in upgrading the CZ design, offering the first rounded hammer, ambi safety, other calibers, conversion units, competition models, and simplified design changes.
Tanfoglio made complete guns or parts for almost all the CZ type pistols including:
Springfield P9.
FIE TZ series
Excam TA series.
Action Arms AT series.
Gamba SAB series.
The Israeli Jericho and Baby Eagle (semi-finished parts).

The current importer of Tanfoglio pistols is European American Armory, who sell the design as the Witness.
The FIE version was a surprisingly well made gun for the price.

Shadow and Dfaris have it right. Tanfoglio is good to go. My first handgun was an Excam TA90 made by Tanfoglio. I would still have it if it hadn't been stolen. I replaced it with an EAA Witness made by... wait for it ... Tanfoglio ! Many fine customs are built on Tanfoglios.

I started with Tanfolgio, good solid pistols. I carry CZ now, but I wouldn't feel under served by any Tanfolgio made sidearm. Go for it.

The price isn't GREAT, but it isn't terrible, either. You may, someday, have trouble getting parts -- depending on the model, and if it has a slide-mounted safety -- but EAA/Witness's customer service area can generally help out. Tanfoglio's DO NOT have a reputation for being troublesome or for needing a lot of service.

Personally, I'd wait for a used WITNESS or CZ, which can often be found in that same price range, but if you just gotta -- you could do worse.

A good friend of mine was in Yamam, Israel's national police HRT, and later was in charge of their pistol training. His carry gun for years was a TZ75. He had lots of other choices but stuck with that. That's a good recommendation for me.

As a left handed shooter, I prefer the slide mounted safety.

Now here is my dilemma, I'm going to have enough cash for one gun.

This pistol, while a decent deal, isn't going to fill a role. I've already got a pistol.
The same gun store has a Polytech AKS 223 listed for sale for only a hundred more. This is something I actually do have a open role for, and it would fit the bill nicely.

If it were your choice to make, would you get the TZ 9mm or the AK?

I had a TZ75 in the mid 80s. The trigger mechanism had a double bar configuration that made it the smoothest trigger pull I'd ever used. I shop IPSC with it for a while (9mm, minor) and it was 100% reliable. If it feels good in your hand, get it. It's a good pistol.

I've owned 2 TZ75 pistols and both were very reliable and accurate. They are great pistols.
As far as your choices go, if you already have a good pistol and can get the AK at a good price, I'd get the AK. It fills a nitch for you, and is a fun to shoot gun that will probably go up in value alot more then the TZ. You're best bet would be to buy one, and put the other on layaway until you can pay it off and have both!

don't think it hasn't crossed my mind. It's probably crossed my wife's mind too, and that would be a bad thing. :(
