ok so ive decided to retire my old 1911 to the safe. my issue now is what my next ccw should be. i don't want another 1911 or glock. i want something that's an oddity as well as a self defense piece. think whitney wolverine. but in a larger caliber say 32acp and up. any ideas?

ive been browsing gunbroker and saw a beautifully engraved one but it just doesnt have that WOW! *** is THAT?! factor im searching for.....

I have a WWII Mauser (BYF) Luger that came back through Russia or East Germany in the mid 1990's. It was rearsenelled (basically dipped/re-blued) so has little collector value but has been 100% reliable with FMJ, (never tried JHP yet) and I'd be comfortable carrying it.

How about a Colt 1908 .380?

CZ-52?

Llama M-87?

Semmerling LM-4 fits your bill perfectly...it has certainly perked my interest for years, just never had access and money at the same time

Another oddity would be a pistol that I purchased as the Heritage Stealth. It is a South African design by Alex Du Plessis and was almost the S&W Sigma (before they decided to go with their own design)...it was called the ADP (Advanced Defensive Pistol) and was produced by Aserma (RSA), before being sold to Tanfoglio who produced it as the P-25. This was sold domestically as the Heritage Stealth. Truvelo Armory (RSA) produce an ADP Mark II, which was imported into the US and sold by Wilson Combat

The P7 is not a novelty gun IMHO. There are tons of them in the market place and have been a well represented carry gun for a long time.

If I were looking for a unique carry gun that is not necssarily a novelty I would get a Rohrbaugh, R9.

Before they went with Glock's design.

The HK P7M8, or PSP are not novelty guns. They are proven, home defense, police and CCW pistols that many carry, including myself. I think its a great choice, but no "novelty", it is VERY main stream.

Stery M9 or GB could be though.

HK P9S.

Bernadelli.

The P7 isn't a novelty, but it is somewhat unique and noteworthy in design. Certainly plenty of them around unless you look for a 40 caliber of double stack variant.

The Seecamp, Rohrbaugh, and AMT Backup 45 (about the smallest 45 out there) came to mind too, but they are also fairly common.

How large/small of an iron do you tote around every day? That would help.

There are a number of high end single stack 9mm's out there that fit the bill: Kimber Solo, all steel models by Kahr..

It's rare in a common enough caliber that you can practice often.

I stated the P7 based off the definition of "novelty" as unusual. I felt the squeeze cocker qualified as such from a design perspective. I was basing the suggestion off of something that is to be used as a CCW. So in order for that to be the case it needs to be reliable, a proven design and track record, with decent availability of parts. I own a PSP and they are great pistols... I wasn't trying to offend or anything.

Easy. 1903 Colt .32ACP. An 1908 in .380 i probably more sound as a defensive weapon. Beautiful and functional.

First off i like to thank everyone for the ideas. im glad to see ive stirred up some imagination.
ive already got a colt pocket pistol and a draco ak. im not looking for a 1911 or glock style pistol as i have several already. to be honest im tired of hauling around my 1911, rossi 357mag, ect. so i think im looking for another pocket gun or maybe a replica/knockoff of an older pistol.....
