Moreover, i am looking to buy an ak-47 and would like to know if there are best deals than classic arms.

Thank you

Classicarms has a Saiga with a basic conversion for $500, that's not a bad deal...

It means that it can take a standard AK stock and pistol grip and that it will take normal AK magazines. Saigas are imported in a sporting configuration.

The difference between the models you mention is that the WASR comes with a chrome-lined hammer forged barrel and was made in Romania. The GP75 is a parts kit gun with a non-chromed US barrel.

Now, converting a Saiga is truthfully the best and purest method. A WASR-10 will work just fine for utilitarian purposes. The thing to remember is that a basic Saiga conversion only covers the magazine well, the pistol grip, and the stock. You will still not have a threaded barrel, a bayonet lug, or the ability to mount a traditional AK forearm. To do so you would need to spend a great deal more money on the rifle in parts and work.

Greetings,

After what I read here and other places, I was thinking to go with the GP75 because many parts are US made. Especially the barrel, so it may have a potential of better precision. However, I live in the South East where it is very humid. I keep my firearms very oily, but the extra protection of the chrome lined is appealing....

So, would you go with the WARS10 or the GP75?...or the Saiga? lol

if your worried about rust classic arms sells hard chromed aks for 519 dollars

General consensus is the fully romanian WASR-10/63 version is a tad better, on the whole. You will have individual guns that defy this logic.

Example: I saw a WASR 10/63, 1985 marked trunion ( with correct stampings) that had chrome flaking off the last 1" of the barrel.

Example: I saw a GP 1975 with NO barrel crown at ALL, just cut off!

Both of these guns will be a mix of used and a few new parts...be very caureful and inspect all parts before purchase.

I bought the GP 1975 and I love it it shoot great bout a 2.5" group at 100 yards with cheap wolf ammo. I'd buy a WASR 10 if the right one came along, It just depends on what I'm looking for at the moment.

If you're worried about rust, run a couple patches soaked in trans fluid through the barrel after cleaning. It worked beautifully for a non-chromed-barreled AK I had, even after shooting corrosive ammo. The chrome lining is more for durability. Military tests, at least with the M16 platform, have shown that a non-chromed barrel lasts about 10000-15000 rounds and a chrome lined barrel is easily double that. Chrome lining does detract from the accuracy a little but not by much. There is still going to be alot of flex in the barrel assembly when firing and it is still a pencil profile barrel and a .30 caliber bore. The Romanians can be accurate with good ammo too. The last G&A 'Book of the AK-47' tested a Romanian underfolder and with Winchester ammo it got 2.5" groups @ 100 yards.

I've got a WASR 10-63 underfolder and a GP1975 with the plastic stocks. (soon to be wood)
The WASR seeks a little smoother in the action, and I had to replace the firing pin on the 75 because it was piercing primers, but I gotta say, these are probably the most fun guns I own.
Whichever one you get, I think you'll like it.
A Saiga and a conversion would be OK too, I have a Saiga .223 that I like and will probably like even better when it's converted.
Pick one, both or all three, but they'll never get cheaper than they are now.

kestak,

No question here. get the saiga and convert it. The one's I have been around are far better rifles than the romanian or gp75 kit guns.

If you want a real nice one wait for an SLR95 or old SAM-7A1R (the cadillac)
Next would be vepr. The Vepr is based on the RPK which is a full auto 7.62X39. It has an exceptionally smooth action, and very good accuracy. The early vepr's with the RAA and SLC UT markings have silver (colored) inlay on the bottom of the receiver and they are sweet. You can get an Ace block and stock to fit.
