Anyone know about these? Any recommendations on which model for 1000 yard shooting, if any?

I have a bunch of their SII models and think very well of them. Their strengths are their glass and their repeatable and sturdy adjustments, and their weakness is/was their relatively thin surface finish.

Dunno which ones are best for long range shooting; I tend towards sub-200 yard kinda stuff.

I havent owned any personally, but I have seen a few and I wouldnt mind having one to try. They seem to get favorable reviews as well, especially for the cost.

SIII grade is a really good bargain if you get them cheap enough! They are better than Leupold Mark 4 IMHO. Not quite NightForce, nor US Optics , nor S&B, but very good.

I've got one of their red dots and it's a step up from the bulk of the China made red dots. I'm very happy. It was between this and a Vortex and this seemed like a nicer option. Not an Aimpoint, but at ~$150 its a great buy.

I have been using the Sightron SII 6-24x40 Model Scope for 1,000 yard shooting for many years. Sightron scopes are good scopes in their price range.

Don,

How does the 40mm do in low light? When shooting 1,000 yds, what power setting did you use?

Thanks!

I am about to purchase a "Big Sky" myself for a .22 rifle. From what I've been told, the glass is comparable to the Leupold VX3 in clarity/resolution. The selling point for me is that Sightron offers so many models that focus down to 10 yards, and also come with the reticle I want, and also weigh about the same as the Leupold. The price is also a good bit less than the VX3 model that focuses down to 10 yards. I also hear the Sightron comes with a great warranty and customer service.

I've got an SII on a hunting rig and an SIII on my target gun. Both are excellent scopes. Just pick the right magnification and reticule and you'll be happy with it.

MtnCreek,

Obviously, with the small objective, this scope would not be a good choice for low light conditions when set for the high end magnification. With mirage at 1k being what it is, I rarely had it set above 18 power.

Well I just found out about a scope called an HDMR it is a joint venture between Horus Vision and Bushnell it was originally designed as an H58 denomination of the reticule and available to the Military only...? Don't hold me to any of this information all third hand I have no experience with these at all.

Apparently the Civilian version is the H59 and is basically the same with a minor difference to the reticule picture and is available now. I am going to look into this scope it's supposed to be a winner...!!! Here's a link to the companies website. I'm sure some of you guys have heard of this scope, maybe used one, sorry for switching gears here but I was told this is the cats ass...

I have 3 Sightron SIII 6-24x50 LRMD scopes, they are great scopes. They will run right with the quality of most high end scopes.
Now S&B,U.S.Optics are hands down better optics, but Sightrons only lag behind Nightforce from not offering FFP reticles.I can live with that.

Now that Sightron came out with some new reticle choices,I'm planning on getting 2 more with the MOA-2 reticle very soon.

I have a Sightron SI 3-9X40 MD on a .22 bolt action and a Sightron SII 6-24-40 AO on a Tikka t# laminated stainless .243. Couldn't be happier with the two setups. The only real complaint I have on my SII is that the clicks are 1/8 moa rather than 1/4 moa so i run out of elevation at about 700 yards, however once I get back into the game I will add a 20 moa base to my .243 and will be out to 1000 yards easily.

I have four of the Big Sky 6-24 Silhouette models. They are the equal of the Leupold 6.5-20 EFR, and are set up better for silhouette shooting and are significantly cheaper. Many of my shooting buddies are getting them instead of the Leupold and they all love the Leupolds.
