Anyone have any thoughts on either the EOTech line of holographic sights or the Aimpoint sights having a clear advantage over the other?
I originally thought about putting an ACOG on my weapon, but now I'm thinking about going with either an EOTech 553 or an Aimpoint Micro T1 just because I think they'd be better suited for my needs.

This is a topic that has already been debated to death on every forum on the internet, including this one.

But I'll give you Cliff's Notes.
Aimpoint: single dot and ultra long battery life
EOTech: 65moa/1moa circle dot reticle but with very short battery life
Conclusion: Ford vs Chevy

Ultimately, you won't be able to make a differentiation in which is better until you get behind both.

I think the battery life issue is bogus unless you're using the sight 8 hours a day. I've had the same AA batteries in my Eotech for 2 years and it still works when I flip the switch. Then again I'm not in Iraq or Afghanistan but I'd wager that most of the people engaging in these discussions aren't either.

I've owned & used numerous models of each.
I prefer the Eotech's reticle and the Aimpoint's controls, ruggedness (fewer reported problems than Eotech) and insane battery life.
The Aimpoint Micro is (IMHO) your only choice if size/weight are major concerns.
Both Aimpoints & Eotechs are combat-proven, you'll find lovers/haters in either camp, pick the one that best suits *your* needs & pocketbook.
HTH...

I have noticed that in most of the photos of memorials for the Seals who were shot down last week that show them in Battle Rattle, there is an EOTec sitting on the rail of their M4.
I suspect that their choice is based on the close quarters actions they are famous for.
We all depend on batteries to some degree be it lights, sights, lasers. Turning on an EOTec takes about as much time as flipping lense caps. I say change your batteries when you do your smoke detectors and don't sweat it.
I don't have an Aimpoint but do own a number of Trijicon products as well as conventional scopes and the EOTec is the fastest for me from 0 to 50yds. and if I take the time (due to no magnification) it is equal to most out to 200.

I used to be an EOTech fan until mine took a dump. I still like the reticle. From now on I'm only buying Aimpoints.

They are both excellent. It's a matter of personal preference. I've used both and I prefer the Aimpoint. YMMV.

Plus, the CompM2, which is the military M68 was widely distributed to our soldiers fighting in the various sandboxes. If it's good enough for them, it certainly good enough for me.

Aimpoint.

I do like the reticle on the eotech, fwiw the instructors at the two most recent carbine classes I took both had a strong preference for aimpoints. Both said they see a lot more eotechs go down in their classes.

Speaking from personal experience I would go with the EOTech. However, if you plan on using the optic once every few weeks or less I doubt there's much difference other than the reticle preference. I have used both optics on several year long deployments where to say the least I thrashed them. The EOTech always kept it's zero and I never had any mechanical problems with it. We also used Aimpoint Comps, not the micro. On the Comps the on/off knob strips out and/or falls off. The turret caps also always get lost if the retention cable breaks. Just my .02 cents.

Aimpoint fan here. EOTech reticle is nice but it's easier to use the Aimpoint's single knob while wearing gloves and it's easy to dial in the brightness by feel and not having to look at the dot while you do it. Battery life is what they are famous for, no point in mentioning it.

I have one optic from all three of the major competitors, I have an eotech 516, an aimpoint comp ml2 2x, and a trijicon TA31RCOM4.

Personally I like all three, but if you want the best go with tijicon and if you want the fastest go with eotech and if your on a budget a used aimpoint comp ml2 is like $300-$350.

If your only ever going to buy one optic I think I would make it an Aimpoint PRO they are really good all arounders, plus a little cheaper than the ones with NV modes that civilians don't normally need anyway.

I've never owned an Aimpoint, but I've shot with them a couple of times. I have an Eotech mounted on my duty rifle, and I love it.

In my opinion, compared with the Aimpoint, I feel that the Eotech provides faster target acquisition, and keeps my field of view open better. These are important considerations when using a rifle in a life-and-death situation, but may be less important to the avid sportsman.

Similarly, Aimpoint is known for having a long battery life (insanely long), and this fact probably doesn't mean a darn thing to the average user. Even still, I have to respectfully disagree with Sentinel on the "very short" battery life in the Eotech. I have carried an Eotech on my work rifle for probably 5 years now, and it has probably had around three battery changes in that time. I'd say that I get at least a year out of a set of AA batteries, and those batteries (as you know) are really easy to find. The rifle isn't deployed daily in my work environment, but it certainly gets regular use. I also use my rifle at the range at least a dozen times per year. So, my battery use wouldn't be as heavy as a soldier who is using it constantly, but my gun certainly isn't a safe queen.

I don't leave the reticle on when I'm not using the rifle, and it takes just a one button push to light the reticle from the off position (in other words, it won't really slow you down when deploying the rifle... faster to turn on the Eotech than it is to sling the rifle or charge the weapon).

Anyway, both options are viable, and both the Eotech and Aimpoint have a loyal following. I'm happy with my Eotech, and would make the same choice if I was going to buy again today. Just my $0.02.

I have an Aimpoint Comp M2 and the only complaint I have (which can certainly be remedied) is the flip up lens covers can block your view above the optic. The EoTech provides a less-obstructed view.

FWIW my eotech has been on the same battery for about 2 years now. Not used lots, but I havent had a hiccup yet. It uses one of the stubby 123 cells.

Took it out yesterday to confirm zero etc on the rifle and it light right up and was dead on. Of course, it doesnt hurt to have irons on there too just in case.

That's why my Aimpoint has no lens covers.
