I'm in need of a new scope, my gun will be used for target shooting only from 100-1000 yards.

I'm trying to do this on a budget. And really don't think I need more than 25x but don't really want any less.

I'm thinking my best option is a Weaver T24 for $350. I don't want the T36 due to mirage at longer ranges. I don't hear many complaints about this scope, and see them used for target work regularly.

Anything better out there in that price range?

There is reasonably good glass in that price range. Weaver is a good choice but I have never looked through a T24, generally scopes in this price range that are over 16X lose some clarity at the higher magnification numbers. The T series lacks any kind of mil dot or mir reticule and those are very useful when shooting long range.

A increase in scope budget would open up your choice a lot. The Vortex Viper PST runs about double your budget, it gets great reviews at the sniper forums. It is regularly compared to scopes that cost twice it's price.

If you have to stay in that $350 area go with less magnification, look at a 3-10 or 4-14. I've been using a Mueller TAC II ($300) on a M1A for several years now and it's been a easy to shoot mil-dot that holds zero and is repeatable. I've swapped it between several 7.62 rifles, it's been very durable.

I've been saving up a scope fund for the past year and I have enough to buy a Nightforce. At this time I'm leaning toward the Vortex.

I think you will be fine with the Weaver 24x. I have one on my LRPV, and have been very happy with scope.

I don't really need mill dots. All the ranges I currently shoot at are know distances and once I know what to dial to get on target there no real need to hold over. Other than holding off for the wind, and I just use the target rings for referance.

I have a T24 on my F-TR gun, I'm happy with it. Just wondering if there are other options out there before I order another.

The T24 is an excellent scope for target shooting, although most guys I know run the 36X. Still, I also prefer the 24X. Another alternative might be one of the offerings from Sightron. They are comparable and the reasons for choosing one over the other would be subjective.

I picked up a nitrex 6-20 off natchezss for 200. it's a weaver grand slam, I called teh weaver guys about it and they said if I ever had a problem tey would replace teh scope with a grand slam. I think they still have them. My only beef with it is that the eye relief is rather short and head position critical. the glass is pretty good through.

It was the best buy on decent 20x glass I could find at the time.

I was thinking about a sightron, but don't know much abou them. Any particular models to look at?

Jeff I've had a couple simmons in the past and was amazed how clear they were. The biggest one I had was only 12x though.

Check out sightron also for target scopes, great glass awesome tracking.

+1. I have a Sightron SII 6-24x40 on my 6.5x55 that I use for 1,000 yard F Class. Good glass for the money. The ability to dial down the power when mirage is really bad is a big advantage over a fixed power scope when shooting at 1k. I rarily had mine set for more than 18X.

I'm using a Mueller 8-32x44 target dot, glass is excellent clear edge to edge it is more clear then my Nikon Monarch.
I have the Mueller mounted on an Savage 12 BTVS 223. I believe the Mueller is perfect for smaller calibers and the price was right at $220.

I have one of those, and it's not acting right. That's the reason I'm looking for a new scope.

Interesting, what caliber rifle do you have it installed on? Have you called Mueller or returned for service, I have three(3) all have been perfect, so I'm interested in your problems with it.

I bought a vortex viper for $400, Its not the PST but I love it. Its a 6.5-20x44mm the glass is clear and has a zero stop. Thats my 0.02

Well mine wouldn't hold the parrellex setting. So I called mueller, they said to check and see if it only does it going one way. And it did, so I didn't mess with sending it back. Basicly when adjust parrellex I go all the way to infinity and then back it down to where I want it. If I go past it I go all the way back up and come down again.

Then I mounted it on a .308, nothing crazy only shooting 110 gr. bullets. I was shooting it at 100 yards. See if I can explain this.

Shot 1 = low
Adjust up
Shot 2 = X
Shot 3 = high
Adjust down
Shot 4 = x
Shot 5 = low
Adjust up
Shot 6 = 10
shot 7 = high.

Seemed like it was moving after I shooting. Moved scope to a 6BR and shot a 5 shot group. 1st 2 shots in one hole, next three shots in one hole about .5" away from 1st two. I really think something is up with that scope.

Does that make sense?

I adjust Parallax much like you do, actually I will work up at times and/or down but have had no difficulty so far, matter of fact that was another feature of the Mueller I liked seemed very precise. Once I have everything set I normally don't change settings my present range is restricted to 100 yards. So far I've only used the Mueller on 223 and 17hmr however I cannot see the 308 being a problem. I'm using Burris signature rings with inserts on all scopes.

You do appear according to your info to have some problems but it could be rifle, ammo, etc. If you can borrow another scope to try on both rifles it will give you the answer.

The 308 I had it on is shooting better with a new scope on it. But, I'm also using different bullets now too.

I may play with some of the old bullets if I have time. I'm sure some of my accuracey problems were in the bullet, I was just using 110 gr V-max. Now I'm using 125 gr Cheek's, I haven't worked up a new load for these bullets yet and they already shoot better.

The Weavers are nice for the money. I have one in 36X and it is a nice scope. No complaints. The only problem with a fixed high magnification scope is mirage at times.

I have been using a 1960's vintage Redfield shooting small bore. It is a 16X and that is all the magnification I need to see bullet holes at 100 yards, plus I get to see the mirage all around the target real time. It is click adjustable.

Is anyone making a good 16 X target scope with click adjustments?

I need clicks because when you are slung up, you don't have the freedom of movement to look at the turret, you just want to feel the clicks as you compensate for wind or elevation.

Is 140MOA of elevation adjustment enough for ya?

Oh my God! :what:

With that much elevation maybe I could get the .22LR on paper at 1000 yards.

It takes 24 MOA to go from 100 yards to 200 yards.
