Been nearly a year since I've been on here... I'm getting ready to take a trip by car, and have already checked opencarry.org and was a little confused by a couple of maps. I'm from VA so open carry is cool here, and am heading to western PA by way of WV, MD and possibly a little of OH. What is confusing me is that all 4 states ore open carry OK states, but on the travel map PA and OH become red states and I'm lost as to what this means. So can I open carry my whole way there or do I need some kind of permission from the red states.

facts:

-I'm not a concealed permit holder yet in any of the states (even my home state of VA)

any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance

Ross

In PA, inside the car is considered concealed. So you will have to keep it unloaded and in the trunk. Open carry outside of your car is OK, except in Philadelphia.

Just so you know, Maryland is most certainly not an open-carry state. If you are traveling through, secure your gun in your car as required by FOPA and you'll be fine. Otherwise, you'll have a problem if pulled over.

In Ohio, without a recognized CCW permit, not only must the gun be unloaded and locked up, but the magazines must be unloaded as well.
