Arguably, they're nuts :) The author agrees with us and the 2A, or that's what I get from it. He's pretty acerbic and light on facts but not all of the media is apparently anti :) I saw this on digg.com, a website with easily a million readers a day. Feel free to load up the comments section, there aren't very many in there right now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "prohibited persons" categories are the future of gun control. A good percentage of the supposedly pro gun community isn't blameless in this either. This type of legislation receives a huge support base.

Think it's a good thing that felons/the mentally ill/drug users/dishonorably discharged service members can't own guns? If so don't come crying when in ten years time a parking ticket results in you never being able to touch a gun again. If this seems ridiculous it shouldn't, a parking ticket has similar burden of proof as a domestic violence charge, which is to say, none.

Race used to be grounds for weapons prohibition. Do you think they will bring that back too?

Nane one other constitutionally inumberated right that you loose upon conviction of a crime.

There have been serious proposals to prevent people on the terror watch list from buying a gun, and given that main qualification to get on that list is brown skin, I would have to say yes.

The right to vote?

If you have question, PM Dave
he is a member here and often comments here and other places

Oh, he tends to be a bit on the sarcastic side, but then when dealing with people like the brady bunch....

Name one other constitutionally enumerated right that you lose upon conviction of a FELONE. (edited quote for clarity)

i realize some of these are not enumerated rights, but A, C, and D definitely are

this is what can happen upon felony conviction

a. Disenfranchisement (losing the right to vote)
b. Exclusion for some licenses like visas and special occupational licenses (reducing job market size)
c. Gun ownership
d. Ineligible to serve on a Jury
e. Ineligible for fed gov assistance ex. welfare and federal housing assistance
f. some states allow a felony conviction as grounds for an uncontested divorce

If anything, there are to many unjustified prohibited persons in the NICS database. And to many erronous entries in it. Besides the fact that someone denied a purchase is also denied the ability to find out why. Posted from the Brady (CSGV) rated 0(zero) state of Arizona. :D

Thats not actually true, in a good majority of states. After you've served your time, and aren't on paper (probation or parole), you can be a registered voter in most states.

heck, in some states you can vote FROM jail. I think it was MA or somewhere in the northeast that does that.

gwarghoul - You do lose the right to vote as a felon. People in for misdemenors can vote from jail, someone in on a murder rap isn't one of them.

Secondly, please name one state that has an automatic full restoration of rights upon the person getting off parole for a felony (none that I know of.. you have to apply for the full restoration of rights).

Ted Kennedy was barred from flying because he was on the no-fly list. Is Ted Kennedy's name still on the terror watch list?

The big problem with these verboten menschen lists is they include a lot of false positives. I know a few folks whose background check include suspect in robbery (but cleared on investigation) or fugitive arrest (mistaken identity) but the official record missed the disposition of their cases. Police report shows up, court record does not.

It is not justice to rely on these lists, but justice is not what anti-gunners have in mind, is it?

considering how he is dead, does it even matter?

Prohibited persons will be the future of gun control, I agree. It doesn't matter if it's right, fair, just, or Constitutional. It simply is. At least that's how it will be. For the Children.

you must be seriously delusional

gear - 2 states dont restrict felons from voting. 48 others that do. We're talking 4%. >Half of the states require that you not even been on probation, as in you have fully served your terms. I did think there was a larger percentage of states that permanently revoked the right to vote... You got me on that one.

Dan - you realize that any known alias of a terrorist is on there right. If a guy goes by Mohammad Achmed, Fred Jones, and Steve Smith, then those names go on the list. They are targeting 1 guy, but probably netting 2-3 thousand people with those generic of names.

I think that the rabid anti's will only be happy when they and their favored politicians can have guns, the rest of can go pound sand, and wait for the cops to show up if there's a problem we might NEED a gun for. Forget about target shooting of any kind, let alone plinking or hunting.

Don't worry boys and girls, it's likely coming to a locality near you and the ATF will be leading the attack.

How else do you get to a 400,000 person list? Think they're all dangerous terrorists?

you're right, the only possible way to get a 400,000 person list is to only target people with brown skin, cant believe i couldn't come up with such amazing logic

heck, in Ky you cant get a permit to carry a gun if you are backed up on child support payments.....guess thats what the "KY" is for.

Guess I need to make sure everything I post is entirely literal so no one gets hung up on hyperbole.

My only point was that the list is pretty flawed as evidenced by all of the random people they were finding on it, when they were attempting to get on flights.

The brown skin comment was tongue-in-cheek, and was only meant to offer commentary that like many other government masterpieces this one was painted with a broad brush.
