One third of almost 300 visit the site regularly. Any firearms site would kill for stats like that! Take it for what it is.

Hopefully someone will come around and put this thread out of its misery!

You guys sound like a bunch a women talkin about strap laced shoes!!!

We are not discussing the number of hits, but how the gunwriters apparently operate! If someone wants to look into buying a gun, we are finally realizing that there are some sites you should visit and some you should ignore, if you want the real truth!

Sometimes the truth hurts.

And I'll reiterate... It's really not a bad site. The traffic is understandable. They write good articles on the firearms they feature. I visit it all the time for basic information on any given gun. All that said, I'd be lying if I took them seriously as a review site. Gunblast likes every gun it touches, which means only one of three things: they only review guns they like, they stack the deck or they really just aren't that discriminating. Any one of those means using them as an impartial source for firearm information is a bad idea.

Gunblast is great eyecandy and they get firearms regularly. That's where your hits come from; nothing more, nothing less.

You said it in one sentence that most gunwriters are in no way like ordinary citizens who must go to a store and purchase a gun at RETAIL!
Are you just jealous or what???

you obviously have some sort of personal stake in the discussion, you hinted at knowing the quinns, and apparently this relationship prevents you from thinking realistically on the matter.
Not at all, never met them.

you are unable to accept the fact that gun rag writers receive free hardware to test and/or receive advertising money from the manufacturer.
I'm gonna help you out a little bit with your vocabulary and reading comprehension. If you have to pay for it, it ain't free.

One more time, put up or shut up. Oh never mind, all you have is your opinion, which is based on nothing but your own prejudice.

Me, jealous?
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Absolutely NOT! I have come to grips with what I have and don't have in life and I could care less what the next person has! I have some guns, and they are just enough to have, i.e., they are just what I need when I need them!

On the contrary, my statement was made out of realization that all those gun write-ups I have read over the years just may have been skewed for one of many reasons, e.g., the fact that the person may get many guns and gun-related accessories at extremely low-cost to absolutely NOTHING!

Why should I be jealous of that?

I do think more people should know this is quite a possibility whenever they read any commentary that "grades" guns and anything that is gun-related! Always check your sources and consider why the person might have written in a way that builds everything up!

If it is to the point where one cannot trust these gunwriters, then who is there to trust to tell you the truth when you are really seeking it?

Perhaps there is a perfect little niche for someone -- they could go through the gun-buying process just like John Q. Customer then grade the gun they bought at the retail level. Then, when there is an issue with the gun, grade the performance of the Customer Service Department!

That is one reason I like this site so much -- I can read of experiences people have had with certain companies and find out just which companies to stay away from!:scrutiny:

If someone is running around insinuating that persons they don't even know are, in some way, jealous, I do think it is time for them to grow up -- if the shoe fits, wear it.

I've conversed with a handful of well known gunwriters over the last several years and they've all told me they're always hesitant to get into these discussions when they come up. Because people have their opinions, usually based on prejudices and conspiracy theories pulled from thin air, and will never be swayed by the truth. Now I completely understand why.

Bottom line is that you guys don't have a clue what you're talking about, obviously have some personal issues and I'm not your momma. Though I do feel like I'm arguing with 10yr olds.

As far as getting everything you need to know on internet forums. I'll challenge any of you to find as comprehensive a writeup on any firearm as you get in a magazine article. Just as with any credible magazine writeup, it should include the following:

-A full photo layout with closeups that shows you the gun & key features in clearly focussed & well-lit images.

-Any developmental or actual history of the gun for newbies or anybody else not familiar with it.

-In-depth commentary on features and operation.

-Qualified commentary on how these features stack up.

-Comments from people involved with the gun at the factory.

-Shooting results at standardized distances with between 4 and 8 different commercial loads off a bench.

-Chronograph results.

-An identifiable name & face out there for the entire world to see, not some anonymous "Sir Iluvgunsalot" forum monicker.

You won't. About all you'll find basically amounts to "got one, love it, you should buy one". Which is just basically what you want to hear.

It's a decent site. I don't go there for serious research, heck I don't consider much of anything on the internet as "serious". I just go there for another opinion to consider, and some good photos.

I have conversed with a handful of industry experts, The Vatican and several Congresspeople and they all say "BALONEY". Without exception they all say Cousin Jeff is a standup guy and anybody that disagrees with us is to be hated and is vile.

It is not a "conspiracy theory" to say that gunblast.com doesn't post any negative reviews - they simply don't. This is not to say that it is a "bad site" or that Jeff Quinn is a "bad guy." It is actually an enjoyable site and Jeff appears to be a decent guy who is a gun nut like most of us here on THR. I think it is a valid criticism that no negative reviews are posted, indicating that there is some "bias." Maybe he doesn't write reviews on guns that under performed, and is simply taking "the high road," in his reviews. Maybe he simply enjoys the personal relationships he has with employees at gun manufacturers and he is reticent to "trash-talk" about their products with out the benefit of the doubt...who knows? His motives could be entirely honorable. Most of us have fired or owned at least one dud firearm that did not operate within design parameters - so there seems to be some disconnect with the author, W/O at least one negative review over the course of many years reviewing guns.

FWIW, I stated that he "fence-rides". I don't think he's particularly biased but he certainly isn't openly opinioned. I think he, like nearly all other reviewers, just doesn't say negative things even if there are some inportant issues to note because this could negaively impact his income.

Which "reviews" influence your decision to buy more? Gun Mags/ blogs or internet reviews("my solo/diamondback/Taurus xxx didnt work; my Highpoint is great)??? Gunplast is a pleasant to read, informative report by which seens to be a likeable guy; a good fact point on your way to you final decision.

Well I've come into this late... I enjoy the videos more than the articles and I do notice a trend to love every gun or at the very least highlight the better points over the bad. Personally that is fine, I expect that. It still gives good information, it just wouldn't be my one stop site to decide to buy a specific gun.

I watched his review of the BSA 10/22. If that is his idea of a fine rifle there is nothing that he has to say that might be of interest to me.

10/22's might be a good inexpensive plinker but not close to being a fine rifle or one worth bragging about.

I'll only add that ANY review of a single gun tends only to describe the design features of the gun and is incapable of measuring manufacturing variation and predicting reliability consumers will see in the field. Take any non-statistical review with a big grain of salt.
