Looking to get a good accurate target 1911 for around $1000 and I think I have narrowed it down to these two. For those of you who have experience with these guns which do you consider better for target shooting. I am also open to any other suggestions. Thanks

those are both exellent choices, I own a 70 series GC and a loaded w/ fixed sights both are accurate enough to shoot 2" ish groups at 25 yards without issue.
I don't like the fact that the new GCs are not NRA service match legal and I really don't like the grip safety. That said I'd be hard pressed if I were you to pass on a new 2011 production GC and just change out the grip safety fo a wilson. that 100 years of service roll mark is drawing me to buy another Colt.

Get the Colt if you are worried about long term value. Get either if you just want to shoot.

About 3 years ago, I went to a gunshow with intent of buying a Gold Cup either new or used.. I picked up a few, but didn't find any that suited me. I ended up buying a Springfield Loaded brand new for less than 750 bucks. It it shoots nice tight groups and will feed any ammo I stick into it. I have nothing bad to say about it.

If you can find a good 70 GC go for that one .. the newer GC I have is a nightmare to dismantle and re assemble the sear pins as there is a small arm and spring involved .. other than that I love my new one to death. Great shooter, feels the way a handgun should with limited recoil if you use the right spring for your loads. As someone before me said, they hold their value better.

For target shooting, get a Range Officer. I have had 3 or 4 Gold Cups. They shot about as good as any average regular 1911.

I do like the fact that springfield has such a good warranty. I know colts do not have one but how is their customer service? Also whatever I purchase will have to be brand new. Thanks

Don't know where you heard Colt doesn't have a warranty. http://www.coltsmfg.com/CustomerServices/RepairRefinish/LimitedLifetimeService.aspx. You'll hear more about SA's warranty because frankly speaking lots of people are getting first hand experience with it lately.

On the subject of your two proposed candidates I don't care for the Gold Cup due to the extra parts and odd size trigger. The Springfield is very nicely finished and if you did get a lemon they will make it right. But truthfully, and it's just opinion, a Colt Rail Gun would be my choice at that price or a Combat Elite if you don't mind a two tone. Not listed, but every bit as nice.

Try the Dan Wesson a lot more bang for the buch than either the Colt or Springfield. \I have Dan Wesson 1911's in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 AC very reliable, super factory trigger, great sights and very accurate.

The Dan wesson's are nice but a little more than I would like to spend. How do the lower dan wesson models compare to the springfield loaded target?

I have a SA Black Stainless Target. I've never considered it all that accurate. On the other hand, I also have a '79 Colt Series 70 GCNM. It's very accurate.

If you're going to shoot the crap out of it there's no choice.
It's the springer.
I have a Loaded.
I break it, they fix it.
Happened twice

If it's for the safe. The Colt.

My question to you is, how accurate do you expect to get for $1000? Combat accurate? 2" groups at 25 yards accurate? What?

Most smiths will tell you a stainless gun will be less accurate than a carbon steel gun.

(I've got my suit on)

This will definitely be a shooter. What kind of groups should I expect from a springfield loaded target?

I was faced with the same choice and bought the SA Loaded for the quality, warranty and customer service. I'm not saying that Colt doesn't produce a good gun, just that I found the SA products to be more consistant in quality. The Loaded or Range Officer will have the better sights, beaver tail, lowered port and front serrations (Loaded). I like those features and wanted them on my 45 shooter.

What kind of accuracy are you getting from your springfield loaded?
