Just bought one of these on Gunbroker and I was wondering if any of you that own one of these has a preference on ammo? The research on this gun that I've done suggests that they will do fairly well with almost anything but as with most 22lr guns I fear that it may be picky. Anyone have experience with this particular gun?

As far as accuracy, I'll post my meager and unscientific findings.

I've since noticed that my rear sight was loose... that MAY have had something to do with it. LOL

But it RUNS with everything I've tried. I mostly shoot Federal Champion bulk. Never one misfeed or jam or FTF with any ammo so far. Great little pistol.

BTW, IMO the first thing you should do is remove the mag safety and install Volquartsen sear, trigger, and either a Clark or a Ruger MKII hammer bushing. Makes a HUGE difference.

Yep. The gun fires anything. Doesn't seem to be fussy at all.

I had missfires with Winchester bulk, but not just in the Ruger.

my mkii's have had some issues with the remington golden bullet and the remington thunderbolt. they run best (of bulk ammos) with federal and winchester.

your results may vary.

Have multiple Standards, MKIs, MKIIs, and MKIIIs. Various levels of performance upgrades.

All run best on Federal bulk from Walmart. Stay cleaner also.

My Mark III will eat damn near anything I feed it, which is rare for a rimfire. However, I usually shoot Federal bulk or Gameshok ammo because it's cheap and plentiful.

my mk2 has been great also, i dont clean it, havn't lubed it in a long time and it keeps chuggin along, real tack driver too. it gets a bore snake run through it once and a while and thats it.

Mine likes the Remington bulk stuff from Wal-mart.

Great pistol and lots of fun to shoot, and don't worry it isn't as bad to get back together as everyone says. Just give yourself some time the first attempt, it gets much better after that.

CCI Blazer bulk and Winchester Wildcat bulk packs have worked fine in my 22/45. Shoots SV and Mini-mags without problem. Found the SV the most accurate for my lousy shooting

Best accuracy I get from my MKIII comes from either Eley Black (which I use in competition) or Wolf MT which I use for practice. Eley Sport is also good.

I've never tried to find the most accurate round but for reliable feeding I give it a steady diet of Federal bulk.

Mine shoots almost equally well with anything I put in it.

Before you get ready to clean it, make sure you download/read the manual! The gun is VERY picky for disassembly/reassembly including pointing the gun upwards or downwards at certain places in the procedure.

I still follow the manual EVERY time I disassemble mine.

mine doesn't give a crap what i feed it. i get maybe 1 jam every 250-500 rounds, but i think that's pretty good for a 22. my buddy's sig mosquito can't go a single mag without a jam or two.

Mine doesn't like Winchester 333 or 555. The mouth of the hollowpoint is too wide and gets hung up on the feed ramp more often than not. I don't blame the gun much because those hollowpoints do have very wide, and often misshapen mouths. My Ruger 10/22 rifle doesn't like them much either for the same reason. It's a shame, that ammo is loaded consistently, expands very well and is accurate. They just need to change the shape of the bullet a bit.

Other than that it will eat most anything. Federal bulk pack (hps or sps) is my usual choice. Those feed and eject very well.

My mark II shoots anything. Blazer bulk and Federal Auto Taget Match shoot the best, as far a bulk ammo goes. I shoot less than 1" 10shot groups from 30 yards with a red dot, but my eyes are not the best so I assume it will shoot better.

Mine does real well with everything but Stingers (long case doesn't cycle well) and anything from Remington (you name the ammo related failure and Rem gives plenty of it). Accuracy is always better than expected with all other ammo I've tried. These are FUN plinkers. :)

Mine likes everything except Win Thunderbolts and these lead the barrel badly, accurate though. Ruger recommends shooting HV or Std velocity ammo so stay away from the Hyper Stuff. The hyper ammo will beat the gun up pretty bad.

The best HP I have found for hunting has been the America Eagle AE22 which is a HV 38gr HP.

I've watched a few YouTube videos on disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling it, and I must say, I can't imagine any repeating firearm other than a bolt-action rifle being simpler and easier to clean out than the Ruger 22/45's. Anyone who says it is difficult must just not know how to do it properly. I just so happen to be getting one tomorrow.

It really is not difficult to get back together as long as your carefully read the instructions and take your time. The last step is a little tricky, but not difficult by any means.

I still miss the way my Beretta Neos came apart. That was sweet, to bad it had such an odd grip.

they were harder to reassemble before youtube. back when I was 14 and reading in the manual "depress trigger and tilt barrel toward floor, insert tab A into slot B, now raise muzzle and pull trigger again, keep your knees bent, elbows straight, follow through, do the hokey pokey and shake it all around....." it was a challenge to reassemble.

now you can get a video showing what to do, and an explanation of what it is doing inside, computer animations of the interior workings, it's great.

Either sell it and buy a MK II generation 22/45 or remove the mag disconnect, and disable the LCI. Both can be problematic, and the mag disconnect makes dissasembly, and assembly more complex.

I have three MK II's, and one MK II gen 22/45. I use Federal bulk, Winchester bulk (550), and Federal Automatch as well as CCI Minimags for small game.

shoot the crap out of it. these little pistols need fed regularly and are always hungry! a friend of mine is torture testing one... shooting a brick of ammo every friday wigthout cleaning until it hangs up. He's 18 months in :)
