I got this blurb from Guns America this morning. What say you? What are our other options? Thanks...

"Paypal is not an option. Please do not attempt to use it to pay for or to get paid for GunsAmerica sales. Paypal is violently anti-gun and has suspended and frozen thousands of legitimate gun seller accounts over the years. If Paypal catches you taking or making a payment for a gun, your account will be shut off immediately and both parties’ accounts will be frozen for at least 60 days. Any money in those accounts will be unavailable for that time, and sometimes you have to jump through several hoops to get your money out at all."

There have been dozens of threads on this topic.

Straight from Paypal:

We don’t allow PayPal members to buy or sell any kind of firearm, whether it’s in working order or not. The same goes for certain firearm parts and ammunition.

For example, using PayPal, you can’t buy or sell:

Any firearm, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, whether they’re for sport and recreation, collectibles, or curio or relic firearms.

Firearm parts, including but not limited to receivers and frames, silencers, and kits designed to modify guns so that they fire automatically. High capacity magazines, multi-burst trigger activators, and camouflaging firearm containers are other items in this category.

Ammunition, including propellants like gunpowder or blank ammunition; ammunition or cartridge cases; and primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for any firearm.

Stun gun sales are allowed for U.S. residents, but only if the transaction is permitted by law in both the buyer's and seller's jurisdictions. (PayPal account holders outside the U.S. can’t buy or sell stun guns.) Before they complete a sale, U.S. sellers must make sure that the transaction is legal in both locations.

Related items that you can buy and sell using PayPal include paintball guns, blank guns, and air-soft guns, as long as such transactions are legal in the applicable jurisdiction. All of these items must display the markings required by law, must not be convertible to shoot a lethal projectile, and can’t include blank ammunition.

As for alternatives? Credit cards, check, money order... there was an attempt to make an alternate pay service, but that's another can of worms altogether.

Pay Pal is, or at least was a spin-off of Ebay & owned by them.

And they don't get any more anti-gun then that.

And yes, there have been several cases of gun dealers being shut off & the money held when Pay Pal found out they were selling guns.

Paypal, being part of E-bay will not allow their services to be used for firearms.
Their excuse having something to do with their HQ being in California. What gunsamerica said is true, paypal will suspend your account if they discover you are using it to purchase a firearm. Some people still discretely sneak in transfers using pay pal at their own risk.

I still go about using cashier checks.

I don't say anything. Paypal speaks for themselves:

I feel a certain satisfaction when I use my PayPal Business Debit card to purchase ammo and supplies locally..

I've purchased magazines over the web, using PayPal, but they were shipped as machine parts..

Yes, nothing sticks it to a company like putting more money in its pocket.

Because of their rather broad ban on firearm related accessories, I suspect that PayPal ownership is antigun. However, we know that without their policy it would only be a matter of time before some felon would use their service to purchase (and then illegally use) a gun. Clean hands, or not, the lawyers would be looking for a deep pocket and eBay/PayPal has a pocket you can sink your hand into clear up to your armpit. I don't like their policy, but it is probably a financial necessity.

yes Jorg, that's why it's a Debit card.. no interest when I pay it off at the end of the month.. I don't like interest, but I don't always carry cash...

Every time you use your debit card, the merchant pays a transaction fee to the issuing bank. Paypal is making money off each and every transaction you make with that card. The money might not be coming directly out of your pocket, but it is certainly going into theirs.

Paypal make money off every transaction you make using that card.
That is not entirely correct Jorg; the issuing bank is JP Morgan/Chase....they make the transaction money from a 'PayPal Debit card' transaction.
.

And paypal gets a cut
the point is, using their card is

----GIVING THEM BUSINESS----
way to not encourage them....
OH, and, all that money that's on the card etc. they will FREEZE and Paypal is't a traditional BANK, you don't have protection past the agreement that hopefully comes on the card, quite frankly, until YOU take them to moderation, they can and DO tell you to pound sand.

And the issuing bank, in this case JP Morgan/Chase, kicks some of that back to Paypal.

and paypal makes money from what they expressly prohibit.

so it's like the Baptist preacher being a silent partner of a bar and claiming the his profits come from food sales only.

it's ironic, so it's funny..

PayPal follows the Golden Rule: He who hath the gold maketh the rules. :p

I have sold gun accessories (e.g., holsters and non-"high capacity" magazines, which are permitted) via PayPal, including to some folks here. In some cases, at least, I think the convenience and security made the difference between the items selling or not. If it bothers you that much, start your own payment service.

How do you figure that? Firearms purchases STILL need to go through an FFL, regardless of payment method.
