Zombie Ammo

Looks like they are just as excited for Season Two of the Walking Dead as I am!!

(That's probably where they got the idea. Anyone else notice this was being filmed in an auto- wrecking yard?)

I'd buy a box of the calibers I shoot (.45, 7.62x39, 12gauge) just for the heck of it if its not higher than normal hornady stuff.

I was deeply saddened that there is no .357 magnum or .44 magnum. Seems the left the revolver crowd out.

Revolvers hold no where close to the needed amount of ammo to have a decent zombie killing gun, revolver guys just don't get it when they pick their gun.

Mid South Shooter's Supply is currently taking pre-orders in all calibers with availability of 11/4. I also work for a company in the shooting industry and what we've heard from Hornady is that this is to be a one-time-only run of ammo.

I think it's down ruight hilarious and I want a box in both 9mm and 7.62x39mm. I never buy factory ammo, but they'll get $50 of mine for that, just so i can have some. :) Yes, it's silly and a gag, but it's cool.

It's just marketing. I'll bet they either got a shipment of the wrong color plastic for some of their ballistic tips and made the best of it rather than sell it as blemished, or even ordered some just for this.

If they're trying to be authentic, I'll bet the rifle calibers are whatever they use for varmint rounds. Made basically to explode small critters after only a shallow penetration. That would work exactly the same on brains!

Yeah, the zombie stuff is goofy and kitschy, but that's part of the charm. No one sees zombie flicks because they're good. Heck, they're often not even Gary Busey levels of cinema. But they're still amusing, because you don't expect Shakespeare there.

Yeah, I'll buy a box. Hell, I'll buy a few. I do, after all, have a long term emergency box project. Mossberg, pistol (I wish the Z-Max came in 7.62 Tokarev! I may have to settle for 9mm and a Glock), and gas mask inside. Crowbar outside.

"In case of zombies, break glass. Retain prybar."

If I could find some I'd buy a box of the .40 and a box of the 12 guage. Thinking long term, this ammo may be worth some money some day. Imagine how much some older ammo goes for when collectors are buying it.

I look at it as a win/win. Either the ammo never gets used and is sold later at a higher price due to the rarity or I use it in the (incredibly likely) event of a zombie apocolypse...either of the two has good results.

I just pre-ordered 5 boxes in 2 calibers. I plan on shooting two of them, keeping three. I gotta make sure it works in case zombies come around, right?

I just ordered, on backorder of course, some. 45 zombie ammo from midway usa. It was a couple of dollars more than Midsouth, but I've always been happy with Midway's service.

The ammo is backordered until 11/4. I 'm tninking it will get there sooner as Hornady is currently filling distributor orders.

I think it's great-- I have a buddy new to shooting/hunting/reloading who happens to also be a Zombie movie fanatic...

I've got to have a couple of boxes of this! Absolutely brilliant (and hilarious!) marketing angle. I buy and shoot factory very rarely, but I would keep a couple boxes of 9mm, .223 and 12ga Z-MAX around just for the novelty.

Oh, and I think these are a great gift idea for a couple of people I know! :D

"Mr. 230RN, you have a motion?"

"Yes, Mr. President. I would like to nominate .357 Magnum as an additional official Anti-Zombie round."

"Motion accepted without a second. Mr. Secretary-Treasurer, please place that in the minutes."

"So entered, Mr. President."

"Thank you. There is a motion on the floor that .357 Magnum be adopted as an additional Official Anti-Zombie round. Discussion?"

"Mr. President, I have an addendum."

"The Chair recognizes the representative from Hornady Manufacturing."

"Thank you, Sir. Inasmuch as my constitutency did not plan on including .357 Magnum in their marketing thrust, may I offer an amendment that .357 Magnum be designated as a backup reserve cartridge rather than a full Official Anti-Zombie round?"

"Any seconds?"

<Several outcries of "seconded!">

"Motion accepted with the amendment. Mr. Secretary-Treasurer?"

"So noted, Mr. President."

"Thank you. The chair recognizes Mr. 230RN."

"Call for the question, Mr. President."

"All those in favor of the motion with amendment?"

<Tumultuous cries of "Aye!" and "You betcha!" from the floor>

"Motion carried by acclamation." <bangs gavel>

"So noted, Mr. President."

"Thank you, Mr. Secretary-Treasurer."
