This seems like a pretty hot topic, especially now that it's deer season in most places. Please list the longest shot you've ever made. Doesn't matter if it was on targets or game. I stuck my foot in my mouth a couple of times on this forum already for bringing up the silly stuff that I do. Let's see some of y'alls skill!! Lucky shots are OK too!! Try and add pics if ya got any!!

Here's my shots on my 1000 yd target. The largest group was 6".
30 mph crosswind
80 F, 700ft
20% Humidity
190gr smk @ 3000fps
Savage 12 VLP 300wsm
Millett 6-25X56 35mm scope
20 minute warne base
harris bipod.

I call it "BS".
And shoot 5-shot groups to prove capability.

Just calling it as "I" see it.

Not sure about the wind factor, and it is impossible to verify distance and wind claims, but to be fair, if you overlaid all 9 shots, the grouping wouldn't be much larger anyways.

now now y'all. This is for sharing ur experiences. Not a bitch session. Lol! Yes that is a real target from our last trip to the range. That's 17 mins up and 8 minutes left approximately. Let's see what y'all got!! Try not to argue! I'm tired of the negativity.

That's nothing - I punched a ragged hole in a quarter from the inside of a tornado while balanced on a rotting log - distance a verified 3427 yards, using my dan wesson 44V pistol. 3 shots, it hit it the first time and then 2 more times as it spun through the air. I have witnesses.

Nice shots. My guess is however, to shut up the masses of disbelievers, is to video it and stick it up on YouTube or something. If ya can't, its understandable.

It's easy to say he didn't do it. But....Who can say he did and who says he didn't?

600 yards on a steel torso target in a pretty stout cross with with an AR15 using a 3.5x ACOG. Not for groups, just to see if I could. I did. Had a witness. Did it 5 or 6 times in a row once I got he windage hold correct. Held approximately 3' right, hit dead center.

The issue would be that 1000y shot on a calm day is no easy feat. To do it in a 30mph cross wind is not impossible but dang close for all but the most practiced shooters. I am not saying he didn't do it. I am just saying where the doubt may come from. You should see people's reactions when I tell them I hit a Prairie Dog at 500m with my K98 using the iron sights from the seated position...

The Ten Ring on a 1,000 yard Palma target is twenty inches wide. The ten ring on a 1,000 yard F-Class target is half that at ten inches.

If you're shooting six inch groups at 1,000 yards in a 30 mph crosswind, then you're probably shooting well above some of the best long-range rifle shooters in the world.

So you'll forgive me for being a bit skeptical.

Longest shots I've ever made were on a steel target at around 900 yards, at various times with a Tubb 2000, and an Accuracy International rifle chambered in 300 Win Mag. (Dang I should have bought that gun...)

The Marines thought so. Lets see some of yalls shots. The x ring of f class is 5". There's plenty of guys better than me. I think the f class world record is just under 3.5" I'd have to check. Last I saw it was a 200-13x

I frequently shoot long range...but I don't dare say I'm an expert. I learn something new every time we shoot far and we do it almost every weekend.

This is a group from my Cooper 243 AI at 1k: 8 7/8". Not the best but I'm happy. Best group of the competition was right around 4" with a true BR gun. I think I was the only wood stocked rifle there...everything else was fiberglass.

I shoot this (338 Lapua) anywhere from 100 to 1500 yards....as that is the length of the property. I'm currently looking for something bigger.

This is 1500 yards:

Steel is placed on the mountain in the background.

At that distance I'm happy with hits, and we shoot anything from 12x12 to 24x24 AR500 steel. Most of the time, it's a 66% IPSC target though (roughly 12x20).

A couple weeks ago, we shot at 1k. I dialed my dope with the 338, fired a round and hit. Did it again and saw them next to each other. Hmmmm, I wonder. Fired a third round and they were all next to each other.

Here's the proof (on a 12x12 no less):

I definitely don't do that all the time. Playing the wind at those distances is realllllly tricky....and I'll freely admit there was a bit of luck in that group.

Lately, we've been shooting our ARs (18" bbl, 77 gr bullets) to 1000 and hitting steel fairly regularly. I have yet to shoot for groups, but if I wanted groups at that distance, I'd buy a bolt gun and more magnification (AR has a NF 2.5-10).

The long range shots that I made were on steel targets at a competition where you only get one shot per target with a 3-minute time limit.

The match directors would tend to frown on someone who would want to run all the way out there with an instamatic to snap photos of a piece of pockmarked steel.

Unfortunately, it's rare that I get the opportunity to shoot much past about 400 yards or so. Also, I don't own a long-range rig, so it takes a general confluence of rare events for me to have access to that sort of distance as well as a gun that will reliably make first round hits.

Esheato : that's good shooting and an awesome rig. I wanted a lapua but the old lady says next year. So I'm stuck with the 300wm and 300wsms. What's the specs on the lapua?
Justin : I understand about the lack of chances. Until I found some fellas from Dallas, Lawton, and Houston did I start to compete. I'm in love with f class now, and really focusing on 1500 yards now.

Thanks man.

HS Precision HTR, can't remember bbl length...maybe a 26", muzzle brake, Jewell trigger, 40 MOA NF base, S&B 5-25 P4F, Harris bipod, Podloc, etc. Nothing special. I shoot Hornady 285s at ~2600 fps.

Zak needs to show up and put us all to shame.

8 min left at 1,000 yards is going to leave you something like 10 or 12 min off target at 1,000 y in a 30 crosswind, so the POI should be 8 to 10 feet to the right of the paper with your stated correction. . Something like 20 min left would start to get you on paper.

That's my thought. It's not impossible, but unlikely, especially with a budget rifle and scope, a stout crosswind and a load that is stated with such a round velocity figure (obviously not chrono'd).

I know what it takes to print small groups at extreme range, and I just don't think the recipe is right.

Yours truly,
The guy who enjoys blowing up paint cans at 880 yards with a $3,000 rifle.

Sorry, but F Class has absolutely nothing to do with group size. All records are kept as scores. I am also calling BS on your 6" group in a 30 mph crosswind, as I have shot 1,000 yard F Class for many years alongside some very good shooters (including the head of the U.S. F Class team), and no one I have met could do that.

Don

I haven't shot 1000 yards in some time due to The Incident, and am just lately getting back into Midrange. I got a 5 inch group at 600 yards in the morning calm the other day.
.40-65 Browning, Baldwin Soule & globe sights, 56 gr Swiss 1 1/2Fg, 408 gr Snover.
Sorry, no pictures.

hey Outlaw 81... what is F class in Houston? I live in Katy and have never heard of it... my longest shot was 175 yards 4x at 8" steel target in 15.8 seconds... at 3-gun competition... I'm not a long range guy but as I get better gear will be...

I am spoiled, as I am about 20 minutes from a steel range where I have steel from 200-1200 yards in 100 yd increments, then every 200 yards to 2000 yards.
A lot of things are possible when the conditions are right at distances that seem almost impossible.
And then given the right rig, even in less than great conditions you can turn in some amazing groups.

USSR: I mis-spoke as I read the title wrong. Was reading between benchrest and f class.
I don't shoot competitively. So I'm only loosely informed of the rules.

Johnny : ill have to look it up, I'm pretty sure its just a long distance friendly contest on a Sunday every month. Ill post info.

For the groups, I never gave what I was zeroed at. These were my own handloads jammed into the lands. Es of 7fps. They're $. My goal with this gun/scope combo is to prove there is a viable option under $2k to shoot up to a mile with.

i don't believe utube either. Only sanctioned matches count. There's reasons for that.
My neighbor kid is a nice kid and is always telling me about his great shots, In video games but he thinks they are real.
