hello All,

I purchased this Mossburge shot gun 500, 12 gage from a gun show and the seller + th emanual says it takes 5 shells in the Mag and one in the barrell so a total of 6. the first time i tried the gun in the range i found out that the Mag takes no more than 2 shells! + 1 in the barrels so a total of 3 shells.

I iwas wondering if some of you have had / seen a problem like this and could share your thoughs please.

I am not sure if there is a spacer in teh Mag and I don't know how to find out either?
this is my frist shot gun so I am that familiar with the stuff surrunding it.

is this just the way it is? or there is a problem with the gun. it did fire well though.

Thx,

Masood

It might have a dowel in it to limit the mag capacity for hunting purposes. I would go to youtube for instructions on how to remove it.

Masood,

Your magazine has a plug in it to keep it legal for hunting use. You can un-cap the mag and the plug will slide out. However, if the game warden catches you hunting with it, he will cite you and confiscate your gun.

Here is my 500, it has a mag extension, holds 7+1 and is not for hunting (game).

Maybe so, maybe not.

Depending on your states game laws, 6-shot capacity may be perfectly legal for upland game, squrrels & rabbits, varmints, etc.

But Federal Law says 2+1 total for all migratory waterfowl in all states.

Thank you All. ho wdo I remove the cap on teh Mag if you may please? I haev taken out the barrell so i know that but have not touched the Mag just yet.

and thanks for the good advice.

its always best to stay legal but on the other hand one has to kno whow to remove and when needed put back the "plug".

Thanks,

Masood

* Make sure your weapon unloaded.
* Unscrew the barrel cap-screw on the end of the magazine.
* Remove barrel.
* Point receiver down and shake.
* The wooden "plug" should come out of the threaded hole that held the barrel on.
Or at least come out far enough to get a hold of it and pull it out.

Thanks RC, yes I have seen a wooden plug inside it and I was wondering what a peice of wood was doing in a shot gun Mag? I know now and thank you.

Release the slide using the slide disconect located behind the trigger guard.
Move the slide back a couple inches.
Remove the barrel retainer nut and slide the barrel out of the action.
Turn the gun so that the tube is pointed down and shake it a littke bit.
The spacer dowel will come most of the way out through the threaded hole for the barrel retainer bolt.
Reassembly is simply the reverse of this procedure.
Normally while the mag tube top is open I spray a little lube in the hole before I put the barrel back on.
Luck
