Re: Glocks and lead bullets....gotta cry 'Foul!'.

When I went through the academy in 1989, we used 9MM LEAD bullets for practice and qualifications. Many of us used Glocks (myself, a G19). In THOUSANDS of rounds fired, there were ZERO problems in doing so.

Agree. Just use common sense. The gun is rated to shoot underwater. It handles +P+ subgun ammo, if you can. It can handle a little bit of lead, too. I've shot 900 cast bullets through my G19, and I only cleaned the bore during the first 200 shots. So it's been 700 since the last bore cleaning. I check it after every outing, but there's nothing there to clean.

I'd suggest the M&P series. I serious love mine far more than I thought I would.

I own a CZ Phantom and enjoy it a lot. The trigger cleans up exceptionally well. I will say though that there are a ton of good guns in this category at this price range - you really can't go wrong with any of the ones suggested above. I'd visit some local ranges that do rentals, shoot all of them that you can and get the one you enjoy the most.

If you want to be able to shoot lead out of an amazing stock firearm, go M&P. This is my 45c....

I also love my Glock 19 gen 4 with the new RSA and ejector...

Update

Well guys, I fully intended to go get a XDm or M&P when I went to the gun store today, but as always, the 1911 section always catches my eye. I started out at looking at the Kimber Grand Raptor. That thing is awesome, but then I saw the price tag and put it down. I picked a US made (NM serial #) Springfield Armory Loaded with adjustable sights. Initial look over was nice gun. The fit of the safety was a bit sloppy and then a the end of the slide....tool marks....eish. I expected that out of something lesser, not a SA. I then looked at a Cold Gold Cup. That thing rattled like a spray paint can. I put it back too. There was also a Cold Combat Elite. Very nice, but the beaver tail safety was not as well finished and blended as I'd expect on a $1K gun. I then saw a "plain" Kimber Custom Target. Very tight. Nicely finished. Finish was even matte throughout. Parts are fit nicely. Positive snap on and off of the safety. The trigger was superb too. A bit heavier than the Cold Gold Cup and the Kimber Grand Raptor, but those had more creep in them and this one broke like glass. I was suprised since this was not a "Custom Shop" Kimber (I know that's up for debate). I had the salesperson try them out and he agreed. I then put those down and looked at the XD and the M&P, but kept coming back to the Kimber. All Kimber bashing aside, this is my new range toy and my second Kimber. I just couldn't justify the extra 5-600 for the Grand Raptor for what I was going to use it for but that Grand Raptor sure is purty. Hopeing to get her out this weekend and get some rounds down range. I'll report back later this weekend with full review and pics. Thanks for everyones input.

S&W M&P or CZ PO-07 Duty. Only polymer pistols of shot that feel like all metal guns. And I can't honestly believe anyone likes to shoot that hollow, twangy feeling poly crap. They might be good guns, but are far from enjoyable to shoot.

Dang, I missed this one. Good luck with your new pistola, and if you ever decide to look for a poly 9mm range gun, well...

Do let us know how the one goes!

I'll add another vote for the M&P. I loved Glocks as my favorite semi before, but the M&P changed that for me. Good luck with your new (I thought this thread was about polymer guns :) )Kimber.

Congrats on the Kimber, very nice guns. I plan on getting one of those myself, but it's not what you went after originally, a poly framed gun.

So may I suggest (like many others) a Walther. Either the P99 or the PPQ. I prefer, and own a P99, but others sear by the PPQ.
