Slide rubbing top of barrel... How bad is that?

That isn't a malfunction...it is supposed to do that, that is why the hood is angled

Looks normal to me, too. Just lube the interior of the slide at the corresponding wear point and cycle the slide a few times. Wipe off any excess from the exposed barrel when you're done.

You need to check out your friends and others semi autos so that you feel comfortable with what is normal wear. Just about every pistol out there, except the ones with fixed barrels, will show some kind of barrel/slide/frame wear the more they get shot.

On second look, that area is pretty shiny for just being hand cycled and never fired. How many times has it been hand cycled? I'll assume there was no lube there to start with.

The top of my Sig is smooth and shiny.

It was fired at the factory. IIRC mine looked like that pretty much as soon as I bought it. I have 933 rounds through it now and it looks the same, no worse. The finish on the FNs isn't quite as robust as that on the Glocks. I just lube the barrel hood, lube the top of the interior of the slide and coat the barrel too

The finish on top of the barrel looks less than supersmooth so you ought to consider the wear marks as polish. Once the area gets buffed down by operating the wear should pretty much stop.

That looks terrible. What a travesty and waste. Only one little scratch on a perfectly good pistol.

-Reholster it in a good Kydex holster 1017 times.
-Throw it over your shoulder so it falls on concrete.
-78 one handed malf clearance drills useing random objects at home (can't use the same object twice)
-use it to hammer a chisel while makeing an ice scupture of John Moses Browning

Totally normal! Nothing to worry about. That is one of the areas you need to lube.

This is why a lot of semi pistols do not have paint on the barrels to start with...

My M&P 45c is almost competely silver there with over 3,000 rounds down the pipe. It gets better every time I shoot it. Just keep it lubed(not over-lubed) where it should be, and it will shoot like a pro. Wear is a good thing, it shows it does what it is suppose to do...SHOOT.

HOOfan the black finish doesn't seem quite as durable as the finish on a Glock, and the metal underneath hasn't been Tenifer/Melonite treated, however it IS stainless steel, so it's got that going for it.

Its called "character".

Don't worry about it, it is completely normal finish wear. It was shot at the factory.

You can buy another unused barrel to place in the gun when not in use if it makes you feel better.

Yep, no worries. My FNP-45 looks the same. with 420 rounds through it and a few hundred hand cycles. It's a stailess bbl though, so with a little lube, you're fine.

That just sounds plain unnecessary and I would never do it to any of my guns. Those kinda scuffs would look horrible from one throw and just be abuse if done multiple times. I would rather it happen by accident and then just learn to live with it. I agree with holstering a bunch of times but plastic holster wear doesn't look good so I just use a leather holster. Gives it nice even wear on the finish.

Looks like my FNP 40. It has some wear across the top of the barrel hood, but not quite that much. I've shot about 750 through mine. It is wearing under the "N" in FNP, though. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you ever do need to use FN's CS, I will say that they are top notch. Good luck!
