Me, too. I've shot 'em with handguns, rifles, now I've done it with black powder. I'm currently in a black powder craze. Hell, I'm still thinkin' I'll try my Ruger Old Army on one. I've killed a couple dozen with my grandpa's old Remington 722 in .257 Roberts, the most kills, but I really like my stainless Remington M7 in .308, handy little gun and powerful. It's a 3/4 MOA gun. My old .257 shoots 1/2 MOA. I like accuracy. I've done NOTHING to either except set the trigger to 3 crisp lbs and tailor my handloads to them.

My favorite for hunting is my Savage in 260. I have the most confidence in it as it's my most accurate rifle. It's also stainless and synthetic so I don't worry about scratches or anything else.

My favorite rifle overall is my Marlin 1895SBL, also wonderfully accurate and just has a certain cool factor for me. I find that I take it to the range more, and out hunting less though, as it's range limitations hold me back some when I'm in West TX where I do most of my hunting.

I have been using my Remington Model 7 in .260 the last couple of years but my favorite gun is a mauser action heavy barrel in .25-06. I use Speer or Hornady 100 gr bullets in the .25-06 and shoot 140 gr. core-lokt in the .260.

Remington 700 ADL Synthetic .270 w/Redfield Widefield 2 X 7 scope in Weaver two piece mounts and rings. I use Federal Premium 130 SPBT that it shoots beautifully. It has killed a bunch of deer over the last 12 years, all one shot kills. For me the most important element of a deer rifle is confidence. Those weeks of preparation and days of hard hunting often come down to a 5 second window when you and your rifle must make something happen. I know my .270 and I will make it happen.

Saiga 762x39 with hornady vmax. When I hunt I mostly stalk in heavily wooded areas. No 200yd shots for me. I shoot about 2MOA with irons, and that's plenty good for me.

Been very impressed with the vmax ammo. devastating cavities.

I rotate my rifles every year. That all work just fine.

My favorite and the one I've had the most success with is my Savage 99 in .300 Savage. Early 1960's era rifle and fixed 4x scope. My father shot his first deer with it and I shot my fist deer with it. It has since been retired to the safe though and only comes out when my father wants to join us in the woods. He still prefers it over his newer rifles.

Today I generally take either a Marlin 336SS in 30-30 for the thicker stuff or w Savage 116 weather warrior in 30-06 for the open areas. Both excellent hunting tools, but neither appeal to me the way the old Savage 99 does.

I have always hunted with my winchester model 70 featherweight in .270. My father gave my twin brother and I both one when we graduated from high school. Aside from the fact that always performs flawlessly, it has great sentimental value to me. Those featherweights are real handy in the woods.

I got way too many bbut my 2 favorite are Ruger #1 in .22-250 and a 7mm-08 and of course any of my .308s. I always take at least 2 when I go to my lease. plus a good revolver, dont use autos for hunting, they are for combat and self defense, not hunting.

My favorite deer (hog and black bear too) hunting rifle is my new Remington model 7600 Carbine 30-06 Spr. with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm Scope. It handles, carries and shoots awesome.

Unfortunately, I acquired my father's Winchester 94 in .30-30 in the past year.

It shoots good and straight... super light to carry. I haven't taken a deer with it, but plan to. I'm happy I have the gun.

Older winny 94's just have a very nice quality about them with some wear from years of hunting. Not many bolt rifle ever look that way.

As of now my favorite hunting rifle would have to be my marlin 336w I believe I've killed somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 deer with it and have also loaned it out on a couple of occasions to family and friends so I'm not quite for certain how many whitetails it has killed but imo it has earned it's keep.

I live in New Zealand. The home of seven species of deer, thar, chamois, wild goat and ram, boar/pigs, wild cattle, wild horses, wallaby and a mix of several small game as well. There are no restrictions on calibre except for some public land where you are not allowed to enter with either rim fire or shotgun. The reason is to make sure you are not hunting native birds.

Remember that we live where you are able to hunt all the above at any time of the year, you are usually encouraged to take as many as you want on public land areas and while several public land areas require a permit, the permit is free and the people that issue them prefer you to shoot most of what you see when it comes to the above species.

Remember that we also have several areas that are classed as problem areas for deer though others would disagree. These areas are often hunted by helicopter as well as foot. In the past, thousands of deer have been shot just to control numbers. So I guess we live under different rules than you guys.

As to shooting deer with a 22, it would not be my suggested calibre but as I said I have shot more with the 22 than anything else. I also shot for a living around that time as well so you do get quite good when your livelihood depends on it
