XDM 9MM or Glock 17

If it were me, I'd go XD(m) simply because I can reach the trigger on it and I cannot on a G17. Simple as that for me :)

I have both, well the 17 is actually a 17L, but I would give the nod to the XD(m) with its match barrel. In spite of the increased sight radius on the 17L I still shoot the XD(m) more accurately.

However, in doing a detailed strip, I like the Glock a little better.

What is neat about the XD(m) (over the XD and Glock) is the addition of the decocker lever that decocks the pistol automatically when you field-strip it.

Tough choice. Both great pistols. My vote is the xdm because the grip will fit more peoples hands, you get more goodies (and a great case), and you have lots of bitone options. The match grade barrel means nothing since 99% of shooters can't outshoot the pistol.

Call me crazy but I don't trust Glocks, not the reliability, the safety. I love the backstrap safety on the XD's and 1911's, it just brings me a little piece of mind. That's why I bought a XD 9mm service.

My issue with the blackstrap safety is in what situation would it prevent a ND? Most NDs are because someone with their hand on the gun pulled the trigger. That won't preven it from going off. When holstering the pistol if you hold it loose enough so that the grip safety isn't pressed you could end up dropping the gun.

The only benefit to a grip safety would be using it as the sole control for a firing pin block. By not having the trigger operate a firing pin block could result in a benefit to the trigger. If this is how the xd is setup then it makes sense. If its not then it doesn't really add any real safe aspect.

The 1911 has a completely different trigger. If I am not mistaken even the modern 1911s don't have a firing pin safety. They rely on the manual safety and the grip safety. If the weapon were on fire and dropped it could fire, but without a hand depressing the grip safety that should help prevent that from happening.

I would go 3G Glock if really forced to choose... But if I was not in CA I would be really tempted by the xdm compact....

XDM in a close one.

The XDM is Simply one of the Best Pistols ever made! I own a number of them. [Two 9mm and a .45] Mine are All full Size. I even bought a Full Size 9mm and gave it to my Son and his Wife for Home Defense as a Wedding Gift a couple of years back. Mine have been Totally Reliable, Accurate and Easy to Maintain. What more could you ask? I really think the XDM will eventually be known as one of the Most Reliable Modern Pistols Around. The Glock is also an Excellent Weapon, but I have never had much luck with the Grip Angle. I know it should not matter, but Glock's are so Friggin Ugly! Its Like a Woman. I want Good Looks and Good Character!:)

The Best to All!

Frank

for me its a no brainer you get so many extra features with the XDm compared with glock don't get me wrong glocks are real good guns but they lack several things to make them a true fighting pistol which the XDm has an abundance of the improved trigger pull,Match grade barrel, improved ergonomics and 19 rounds of 9mm thats the best without the mag stick out the bottom and the angle of the XDm's grip is more like a 1911's than anything else

the 80 series 1911s have firing pin safety and a improved barrel lug that is more reliable. and i would be forced to go with the XDm because of all the xtra features still i think the glock looks better but i know that most people think there ugly

now why would you do that ?
The XD IMHO does everything the XDm does.I dont care for all the little add-ons springfield tacked on and raised the price accordingly. The smith M&P is a solid design and feels better in my hand.Although i own a glock17 and it shoots fine....it just feels cheap to me.The XD and M&P doesnt for what ever reason. Its just my perception of course.I used to be a glockaholic....not anymore thank you.Despite its popularity i cant help get past the cheap feeling of the almighty glock.

Glock low bore axis and grip angle are amazing in 9mm. IMO, XD enters the ring at 40SW.
