My brother is wanting to buy an 1100 Tac 4

22" bbl, with Rem Choke
Mag Ext....

Anyone own one?

He's curious how it will cycle on bulk pack target loads or if he's goin to have to shoot high brass or buckshot all of the time?

Thanks

I've got one. It works fine with everything from my light 1oz #9 shot reloads to factory 00 buckshot. The stocks fairly light, and as a result, the shotguns a little front-heavy, but I still like mine a lot.

I bought an old Remington 1100 non-rib barrel, had it cut down to 20", installed a new (bigger) bead sight, added a Choate tube extention, and re-blued it for only $400.

It shoots any 2 3/4" shell I put in it, field, buck, and slugs, without any problems. Since the Tac 4 only shoots 2 3/4" shells also you might just cruise the pawn and gunshops looking for a cheap, older 1100 to turn in to what you want.

Also I did replace the O ring, but that was just around $6.

I have that gun. It shoots the Remington bulk pack from Walmart just fine. I believe the current price is around $22 for 100 shells.

Stay away from the cheap Winchester shells, they are horrible. Higher grade Winchester shells are fine.

Well, not a Tac4, but I have a Competition Master, which is about the same.
Birdshot:
  • 1 oz, 3 dr eq: problem (does not cycle reliably)
  • 1 1/8 oz, 3 1/4 dr eq: no problem.
  • In between: problematic. Try a box and see.
Slugs:
  • Remington Managed Recoil 1 oz slugs: does not always cycle in cold weather
  • Fiocchi Aero slug 1 oz@1150 fps: cycles, not tested in cold weather
  • All other 1 oz reduced recoil slugs: no problem

I use it for 3gun, and using the right ammo, it runs great (unless it breaks, which it has done a couple times).

I love my TAC-4. I run the aforementioned Walmart bulk packs without issue. Just keep is a bit wet until it gets broken in.

Wow, surprised this thread came back.....

He bought it, it has been flawless with anything he's fed it. Cheap bulk pack to buckshot to slugs...

It's a keeper.

Never a jam, Never a malfunction....

I find the same, Klusterbuck, for bulk pack shotshells.
Bulk pack are not reduced loads, they're right in the middle of the power range.

Reduced target loads (birdshot) do have problems in my 1100.
But reduced recoil buck & slug have no problem cycling.

Tell bro' to keep it lubricated and cleaned.

By the way, just a note, 'High Base' doesn't mean a heavy load.
The height of the base only relates to the way they make the base wad.
It has nothing to do with the heft of the powder charge.
