I think the M14 is the coolest looking rifle ever made. But come on guys, let's get real. These two rifles have already faced each other in actual combat and the M14 lost.

Uhh no, In Vietnam it lost because the loopies behind the desks thought they knew how to fight a war better than a 5 star general. In Afghanistan, you don't see and US soldiers trading their M14s or DMRs for AKs...

The M14 definitely shines between 100 and 500 yards, even with just iron sights. The AK is a sub-100 yard gun and it was designed to be that way! (Look up the history!)

The biggest issue with the whole battle rifle thing is that the M14 today isn't even being used as a battle rifle, but as a designated marksman's rifle. It's Russian equivalent would be the SVD-40 (Dragunov), NOT the AK series rifle.

The AK would be my rifle. I don't really have all the skill to be able to use the M1A accuracy. I'm also a Kalashnikov Guy.

Noir, what battle was that? I don't know of any. In every battle I am aware of the guys with the M-14s won.

The M14 lost because of a pen. Not because it wasn't a better rifle, or because of the forces using it.

They are two very different rounds (not a great head-to-head choice if you ask me), but I'd still take an AK.

The battle between full-power battle rifles and intermediate-power assault rifles for military purposes. The M14 would have been the best rifle of WWII but arrived two conflicts too late. It's my favorite rifle for its civilian practicality and old-school looks but honestly it was obsolete before it was even produced.

The M14 was one of the things I liked best about the Army when I was drafted. A fine shooting rifle with a long reach. No doubt about it. Besides it was on our side.

I see your point but M-14 are being updated and used in combat as a full power battle rifles now. Many think they should have been kept in service to begin with. I used both in the military and consider either M16 or M14 vastly superior to the AK. But I am not going to argue with the many that think otherwise as both sides have points.
