I'm looking for a .223 bolt action plinker and paper puncher. It's down to a CZ 527 American or a Savage 14 American Classic. Must have a wooden stock. I hate plastic.

I already own two CZ rifles and love them. But I'm leaning toward the Savage for diversity and the Accutrigger may be a little better out of the box than the CZ set trigger.

Which would you go with?

If you dont have a Savage, id go with that. If you want a more properly sized rifle go with the CZ. You might want to look for a Savage light varminter classic. They dont make them anymore, but they are still around used. Thats what I want lol.

yes you can...your doing a definitive, comparative test and report (with pictures) of both rifles, therefor you MUST HAVE BOTH RIFLES!!!!

Its all in the name of knowledge, everyone will understand.......

That's fair. It would be nice if they would put the Model 25 action in a nice walnut stock. You either like the laminate look or you don't.

I own the Savage model 14 in .223 and have no regrets. I'm like you...have to have wood. I can live with laminate but greatly prefer a regular hardwood stock.

They did do the 25 in a "classic" walnut stock, but i think they dropped it this year. I see them on gunbroker "new" still, or did last time i looked.

CZ...for sure.

I already own two CZ rifles and love them. But I'm leaning toward the Savage for diversity and the Accutrigger may be a little better out of the box than the CZ set trigger.
No offense, but I can't imagine how that could be possible. On the off chance it was, a couple of screw turns and it is what ever you want.

If you're going for a .223, I see no need for all the extra weight of a typical short action rifle. Especially if you're already familiar with CZs.

I've got 4 Savage rifles now, all chambered in short action calibers. I also own 3 CZ 527s, all in calibers prefectly suited to the micro action.
