I dont want to offend any Mil surp purists, but I just finshed a sporter K31 project. Now to defend myself, I love the K31 and prefer the original military configuration, and have a stock K31 that is my favorite rifle. Recently I purchased from another member here, a K31 that had an unusable cracked stock. I decided to make a shooter that I could hunt with, rather than just a nicerifle with a broken stock that I couldn't shoot. I ordered a Boyd's stock, and after a bunch of work with chisels, rasps, rattail files, a drill, and sand paper, I got the stock to properly fit the rifle. I hope this does not offend too much, and hopefully my efforts will allow this fine rifle to see many more years of use.<

I think thats a beautiful rifle! The K31's are shooters for sure, though i dont have one.... Yet... Good job on that rifle. I like it!

I think it looks great! And if you ever wanted to you could put it back in an original stock. Enjoy.

BURN THE HERETIC! :fire::cuss::cuss::what::barf:

Ok. not really. :) Very nice looking rifle. A K31 is still on my list of guns to acquire, but it's down the list a ways.

No reason anyone should be offended. You actually haven't permanently modified anything and the original stock was already cracked, so there's nothing to worry about :).

I was at a Billy Dixson shoot in Colorado. That is very long range...1000 to 1400 yards. The big boys were there with 338 lapupa-umpta & scopes, and the black powder men were there with Sharps rifles too. Using a Questar to help me with ranging the iron sighted K-31, I got on the 1200 yard 4' gong after 4 trials, then went BAM,,,,,, ... DING! Did it 3 times. Everybody seemed to watch my untouched war-horse do its duty!

I have 3, and two have the no-drill scope mounts.

Can you see the target in white? ( Left side)

Hell - lookin' at how pretty it is, I'd go further (counter intuitive as it is) and put a safari style front sling swivel on the barrel. Then you get yourself a "white hunter" hat, some rockin' bush shorts and tall sock and you'll be stylin' old school for sure!
Very nice job, that!

Don't feel bad. I'm a definite purist, but we have a few 1911s that have the sporter stocks on them. They were Golden State Arms conversions back in the 60's. As long as you kept the original stock, who cares? Its a great shooter.

I think it is "awsome"looking! I just got a K-31 and am thinking aboy having the original stock "fixed"up but don't know if it will hurt the value of it in the future? The stock on it dosen't look new but isn't broke anywhere either.

I'm a big fan of the Schmidt-Rubins. That, sir, is a beautiful rifle.

Here are mine. All original (though none as pretty as yours).

Thanks for sharing.

Wow! That's beautiful!

Anybody got a K31 that needs some work? Mine is all original, and isn't getting anything done to her but having lots of GP11 sent down the bore a couple times a year. Putting a broken one back in service, looking like that, is a Good Work, not something to condemn. I would like to emulate you, OP.

Looks great. I would never do that to mine, but if I found another one for a good price, I would definitely consider doing a sporter conversion.

That stock looks sharp. Is the length of pull longer than the military stock? My thumb hits my nose with every shot from the regular stock.

Very, very nice work! You don't have to apologize for anything, it's your rifle. I'm a purist, but I can't stand to have a bunch of rifles sitting around without any practical use. So of the several K-31's I owned, I picked a beech model to modify. (can't STAND the thought of hacking on one of the original walnut stocks) Here's a shot of her with a 600 yd. target I built:

She was also the first rifle fired at the target, to great effect I might add:

...and off the subject, GP-11 will most times penetrate 1/4" diamond plate at 600 yds!!:what:

That is a beautiful looking sporter. Nice job.

35W - Hope you don't mind, where did you get the leather cheek pad? I've craving one (or more) for a few rifles.
