I've had one for many years, and have shot many sage rats with it. About 1 1/2" groups at 100 yd with the best ammo. Totally reliable. It's a keeper.

I recall my first gun ever was from my mother, and I was so surprised and suuuuper excited. I long for the long thin boxes lurking behind TV consoles or Xmas trees....

I recently purchased a model 20, which is a bolt action .22 LR. It's a Project gun I have been posting about-but a .22 mag seems real nice. Should be a fine rifle for ya!

Mine is ammo sensitive. Accurate with any, but POI changes drastically from one to another. I am shooting Hornady V-max loaded by CCI nearly exclusively now. Hits alot harder than you will expect it to.

I love mine. It's almost a tack driver. I say almost because I have a.22 that's better. There is a very simple trigger job that you do by simply replacing a spring. Check out www.rimfirecentral.com

I have the Marlin 882 same exact gun just earlier model. Buy several different ammo types and see what shoots the best. To be honest mine likes it all, but it's not used for hunting, just having fun.

Like others are saying - dig the gift for what it's worth now and try several types of ammo till you find which one this one wants to be fed. I don't remember the particular ammos anymore but mine was accurate enough to be boring with the right ammo and a waste of time and money with others which still fired well in my other rifles. Before reading these responses, I always thought my Marlin was haunted.

I just did that 'Papermate spring replacement' on my Marlin 882 22mag and love it. I was able to cut 100 yd groups from 2-2 1/2" down to a best of about 1 1/8" using Remington 33gr polymer tipped ammo. I didn't have any other ammo with me to try, so who knows it may even do better with a little more work on my part.

I had the stainless synthetic model and it was an absolute tackdriver with Winchester Power Points. I traded it off and have regretted it ever since. Enjoy it, upgrade the trigger and you'll be set.

I installed the spring, sort of in a trial for now. My gun is in pieces, being refinished but i suspect I will like this. To see what I am up to:

I used a different spring that worked out better for me. If I can the numbers for it I'll post it.

**I found it (part # 1NCG6). I bought it from www.grainger.com. I dropped my trigger down to around 3.5 lbs.**
