I'm an addict and OK with it, as long as my spending doesn't get over the stop I don't see this as a problem.

My wife has a hard time understanding how I can be so obsessed with anything, much less guns. I tell her she just doesn't understand that new gun "high" I get.

It's only a problem if it is negatively effecting your life. Otherwise it is just a harmless obsession.

I have stopped buying guns I can't justify owning. Oh..did I mention that I am REALLY creative at coming up with justification

I started out making lists starting at 22 and ending at 500 in both handguns and rifles. Trying to fill the needs up and down both lists. I hit all the major caliber increments ....then I realized there were cool calibers IN BETWEEN the ones I had. Tell me there isn't a good reason to own a 30-30, 308, 270 and 30-06?

My wife has long since given up asking why I bought something new.....

She now asks.... "where's Mine?" So now she has a collection that is all her own in various colors and laminated purple stuff.

So really...buy your wife something pink or purple maybe electric blue.... Something she might fancy could soften the impact on your hobby and you might just get to shoot with your wife.

There's my justification. That doesn't work well in my house

I got very lucky, I've been addicted to firearms since...birth? As far back as I can remember anyway. I am a junior in high school so I can't buy them myself but I have worked enough in the last year or so to buy,ehem, I mean my father buy 8 firearms that he owns. Im glad I caught it early in life so maybe one day I'll burn out or something. Or maybe it will just get worse (which is what seems to be happening).

You don't really have a problem until you find yourself owning sets of three identical firearms in order to have one to shoot, one to handle yet remain pretty and one never removed from the box - that's an indicator of a serious problem.

When you start aquiring multiples of the same gun, solely for the purpose of:
one to use,
one to fondle,
one to sell or trade later because it was just too good of a deal to pass up,
one to eventually replace the one to use,
one to put away because it's NIB,
one to put away because it's LNIB,
and so on and so on...

If you're doing that, then maybe you have a problem. But if not then by all means, carry on.

My wife says I am excessive, I think its normal to have 10 mags for each one.

Just tell her that THR is part of your 12 step program and that buying a few more guns is the only way to confront your demons.

Case in point: Gun show, I always take the wife because she has a great eye for detail or hidden treasures. Last show as we're walking out due to the lack of finding something worthy of the safe she looks me in the eye and says "Babe, I didn't tell you this but I had another $800 with me in case you ran into that Colt you wanted". Now that's what I'm talking about

My wife is okay with my addiction as long as I keep it from ruining our finances. We've worked out a deal which allows each of us some spending money from each of my quarterly bonuses. I get guns, she gets clothes/makeup/purses etc. On occasion I've been known to spend a little more and she just adds that to hers. The problem I run into is not having enough $ left to stock up on ammo for my new purchases.

I haven't gotten to the point of having multiples of the same gun because I'm not a very focussed collector. Pistols, bolt action, milsurps, modern military, I like them all.

Back when I had a spousal unit I simply tried to match her. Her Shoes... my guns (knives, archery and fishing tackle too).

I never did catch up to her shoe collection. Probably just as well. A guy could go broke doing that.

I'm happy nowadays just feeding the few that survived.

Seems that is all I think about, expensive for me retired on a fixed income. I have purchased a lot of guns over the last 3-4 yrs. I have a special connection to each and everyone of them I love hunting and going to the shooting range to improve myself. I know Im addited. But the way I see it Is that some folks spend a lot of money and time on the Golf Course Chasing a little ball from hole to hole. So thats good if that what you enjoy And yes you can overdo it. But dont forget about you spouse. She could be right.

P.S Now getting into BlackPowder and I really like it better. Wish me luck So I will know when to stop have purchased 3 blackpowder guns in the last few weeks. At that rate I will have 36 new guns by the end of the year. Huh! Just a saying, Really there is no way I wouldl do such unless I was bring in a 6 fiq income

I tried to stop after my gun safe was full...... then came in one more two more im at 17 more rifles and shotguns after i said i had enough.
