If You Are Going To Bubba A Mosin-Nagant

And get back to discussing the merits of sporterizing a Mosin-Nagant.

Which is after all why we're here.
Actually I thought the discussion was about a particular Mosin that had been sporterized and was being offered for sale,NOT sporterizing in general. I honestly don't like Mosins even though I have one but I do like well done sporters. I don't like ARs,AKs or Glocks so I typically don't post on threads having to do with those arms. Camero guys should not post on Mustang threads if you know what I mean.

O.K. let me clarify. The rifle pictured has had some really nice work done on it; very well performed and it's very nice looking. What I meant by my statement was that you can doll up a Mosin all you want, and you still have the intrinsic design shortcomings...and I make this statement based on experience.
I went through Mosin phase and made a heck of a nice Scout rifle out of one, and an almost passable High Power rifle out of another. I figured out a way to easily and inexpensively make Mosin triggers adjustable, managed to effectively mount micrometer adjustable receiver sights on both of these rifles (and radically modified the bolt handles and receivers in doing so), mounted useful front sights, bedded, bead blasted, Parkerized, accurized and generally did everything I could think of to improve these rifles from a functional and accuracy standpoint. But after the dust and metal shavings had all settled, I realized that I had rifles that still had magazines hanging below the stock (single stack, no less), said magazines were still a pain to load with cases that have a gigantic oversized rim, and still have bolt handles that are way too far from the trigger and a split receiver among other things

Well said...and I agree. You can do the same with cars, my other affliction. I do not like the crudeness of the rifle or the culture that produced it. I know a lot of folks that will buy 10 cheap widgets even though you can get 1 quality widget for the price of the 10. My neighbor buys cheap horses, firearms, etc. He cannot hit the elk and his cheap horses buck him off and he spends a fortune on hospital bills and lost wages...but hey he got a "good deal" right?

How about we all stop being thin skinned if not everyone agrees with us. And get back to discussing the merits of sporterizing a Mosin-Nagant.

But you are not discussing the merits of sporterizing a Mosin-Nagant(or any rifle, for that matter). You are telling people they are wasting time and money on a turd. That is not a discussion. It is an opinion of someone that will not listen to others' opinions. There are many ways to sporterize rifles. Instead of implying to people that they are idiots, why not discuss your opinions on what would be sporterized, and what would be bubba'd.

I think the first rifle was a prime example of a perfect sporterization. Definitely no bubba there.

Would you mind finding my post were I said anything even remotely like that.

Is our society becoming one where if you don't agree with someone, that people feel you attacking them. This thread seems to indicate that.

Yep...you take a 20 dollar Mil-surp rifle and sporterize it it is going to have zero value down the road....
Value is relative. If he got what he wanted out of the rifle and has no intention of selling it, I would say he got a lot of value. He took a base model firearm and made it better (for him). That is value.

you obviously did not look at the link I posted...

Yes! We have lost our ability to disagree and compromise. Everything is left or right, white or black, win or lose.

I did. If you think any run of the mill, one in 20,000,000 Russian rifle is ever going to be worth that much, you're kidding yourself. I have seen your link and stand by what I posted.

mmmm...I see sarcasm is a wasted method of communication here...

I came across pictures of one where somebody finally used some quality lipstick and the results are pretty good. It does help they started with a well made pig, a Tikka M39.

If you're thinking of "sporterizing" a Mosin, this is what you should be aspiring to. Simple, elegant, clean lines and good quality work. It's almost pretty

I still don't like it. I've never had a Mosin and probably never will. I went through my military bolt action stage when I was a much younger guy and M98 Mausers were readily available cheap.

Also, the scope base doesn't even appear to even be mounted in the back. Looks like a Photo Shop installation...unless someone makes a no-drill floating backside scope mount. S&K maybe?

Just saying, probably wrong.

The stock is nice, no doubt, but looks useless with the scope mounted that high above the bore. One would need a lace-on cheek piece with a lift kit to even have a cheek weld and see through the scope.

With that nice wood, wonder why they put that cheap scope on it...hmmm. :scrutiny:

Let me bring y'll folks the news....

Where will the next generations of gunsmiths come from if there are not projects to fuel their dreams?

When a young person (12-84) decide to build to a Mosin into something different with their own hands; we should totally support it!!!

Mosin are about the only mil-surplus rifles left that is affordable enough to customize at home in the garage.
