Hit the big 45 last week, so to celebrate I bought a new sixgun in .45 Colt. My first single action was a Hawes Western Marshal, which if I understand what I've read, is this EAA Bounty Hunters "ancestor"? I've never owned an EAA, and wanted to give one a try, so I found some on Gunbroker.com.

4.5" nickel plated, which is a pain to photograph!

Action is tight, cylinder locks up solid, it's transfer bar safety action out of the box is very much like the converted Ruger action that it is, I think they pay Ruger a license fee to use it? But you can load a full 6!

I don't have the stuff to measure it, but compared to other single actions I own, the trigger pull is a bit heavy. No creep and it breaks clean, but it does take getting used to.

Haven't been able to get out and shoot it, since I picked it up Tuesday evening, my area has been hit with a EF4 tornado that killed 6 people in a town about 14 miles away, Harrisburg, IL. that you may have seen on the news, and then more severe storms today, so between that and helping as much as I can with disaster relief for Harrisburg, I haven't been able to go shoot. Hoping by early next week I can, and will report on how it goes then.

Aside from the heavy trigger pull, initial impression are good, it seems to be well built, and the grips actually are very nice looking walnut.

Ah 45 Y.O. ! I too thought it was gonna be a perfect year ; .45 speaking. It ended up about the worst year with my wife of 20 years running off, making me sell my hard earned home and TRYING to take my guns :cuss:
I kept most of my guns and now have a better wife and home and more guns .:neener: However if we go caliber by age I think I need a destructive device license now

IIRC, Ruger did not charge for the transfer bar use, orders from ol' Bill himself I believe.

Nice gun, pic looks great.

Hmmmm, who makes a .52 special?

Same thing happened when l turned sixty-five last Labor Day. So l bought a 27 in 3 1/2'', a28 w/4'' barrel and a Mod 10-5. 27+28+10=65 :)

Good looking hogleg. Myself, I'm well in to black powder calibers these days. Hmm, have to look for a .60 for next year.

So If I've got a headstart with.45's at age 35 (for 3 more days at least, almost out of diapers compared to some of you gents)

Does that mean for my 45th I need to find a .55 caliber now? ;)

Good on you for helping out those hurt or out of home due to the tornado! It's times like that where the "silent majority" seems to quietly open their arms and homes to help others.

If your new toy shoots half as good as it looks that thing will be a source of great fun.

However if we go caliber by age I think I need a destructive device license now

I'm in the same boat at 58. I'm just glad that a few others showed us that we can buy multiple chamberings to add up.... :D

Howdy

What took you so long? I bought my first 45 when I was 25. I guess I'll have to start looking for guns that are over 60 caliber now.

And my heart goes out to those who lost everything in the tornadoes.

Looks like I'm gonna have to get a model 28 for my next bday!

That's a beautiful .45. Happy b-day. I hope this is your best year yet, but the worst one going forward!

Marv, all the best and I hope you get to use them for a good long time!

So what about a .357? I guess it means sneaking it in a little before you turn 38 and then buying a "proper" .38Spl actually on the B'day?

Does anyone make a .59 caliber? I'm having a tough time making 59 break down into anything normal... :D

I think you should only load 5 in the cylinder until you turn 60! Congrats, though, that is really nice.

You could get yourself a S&W model 59. Not a wheelgun, but undeniably a classic.

A nice option Ben. But sadly with the 102mm barrel length stated on a spec sheet I saw that puts the 59 into our "Prohibited" class. And as a new shooter I'm not grandfathered to own any of the Prohib classification guns.

Yes, we have some really silly gun law up this way that was crammed down our throats in a rush by a past Liberal government.

The .950 JDJ Got an exemption for "sporting use"...

But I'd be afraid for any qualifying Members (using these criteria) shooting that thing!
