I have been shopping around for a all steel 9mm. I took a look at a couple of the 5900 series and 6900 series S&Ws. I liked what I saw, I was just wondering if there was anything I should know about them because I don't know much. Thanks in advance.

Is there any other all steel 9mm S&Ws I should look at?

If you want all steel, be advised the 69-series have aluminum alloy frames.

The 5906 is the most common, and will be the cheapest because it was a popular LE gun. Don't confuse it with a 5903 or 04 or, which are also alloy-framed. There was also a 5946, which is a DAO action with no safety, not DA/SA with a slide-mounted safety like the others. You might look for a 3906, which is a single-stack (9+1 round) magazine but may fit your hand better, or a model from the previous generation (639 or 659). All of these also have magazine disconnect "safeties."

Thanks guys, you all have been a big help. I'm just getting sick of the whole polymer scene.

I love my 5906, I'm on my 2nd one (foolishly sold the first). The 3906 is an all-steel single-stack 9mm, I've heard good reports on them.

Yeah, don't buy one. Unless, of course, you can afford several of it's brothers and sisters. The 3rd gens are an addiction. I have 6 at present.

If I could only have one 9mm for life, it'd be my 5906 without a second thought. There are lots of other great combat 9's, but none of them measure up as well, IMO.

In the 5900 series the 5906 has a stainless frame and the 5905 had the carbon steel frame (there aren't many, but they are out there)...the 5904 had the alloy frame.

My personal favorites of the steel framed S&W 9mms are the 3906 and the 952...I like the 5" better than the 6".

I myself am on the hunt for a 5906

Willing to trade a PT92 for it when I find it. Even though I know they sell for about 100 bucks less.

I came to the same conclusion.....lol Funny how they multiply, isn't.

Its a sickness! There are so many interesting models and lines to collect. In the 59 series there was a 'value line' consisting of basic models in 9mm (910, 915), .40 SW, .45 acp. I just bought a 910. I also would like a CS9, a 5906, and the Holy Grail would be a 1006 sitting neglected in a local pawn or gun store. After that...maybe a 'shorty forty'.....sigh. See what I mean?

I have a police trade in 5903 with the square trigger guard that I got from Buds. It is very reliable and as accurate as I can shoot it. I'm thinking a 3913 might be next although I held a 4513TSW at the LGS that fit my hand extremely well.

Those are some great looking S&Ws guys thanks for sharing. I will be purchasing a 5906 sometime in the near future.:D
