Hi,

I am about to launch a beta version of my GUNMANAGER software within the next week and I am looking for test users/beta testers, who want to try it out and let me know if there is anything missing or anything unclear. For example I am not a reloader so I might have missed some options in the ‘reloading ammo’ menu.

The program requires a Windows PC (XP, Vista, 7 ..)

Some features will include:

Firearms – This section offers a complete management of purchases, collecting, upgrading, selling, accessories for and repairs of your firearms. You can also add pictures, documents (owner's manual, manufacturer brochure) and copies of your sales receipts.

Accessories – You can manage purchases, upload pictures, datasheets, and PDF documents for your firearm accessories. The program offers unlimited sort options with a simple drag and drop to organize columns.

Accessories manager – This drag and drop tool can be used to add an accessory to a specific firearm or select multiple firearms where an accessory could be used.

Ammunition - Keep track of your available ammo. This tool offers detailed reports for example rounds per caliber you’ve used, the average cost of ammo and ammo used per timeframe. It can also provide you with a report of the number of rounds still available for each firearm or from a specific caliber/brand you own. You can also make your own ammo classifications - you could differentiate plinking ammo from SHTF ammo by simply adding those categories to your available ammo.

Reloading – This section helps you manage all of your reloading supplies, purchases and availability.
This can help save on costs when you’re making your own ammo.

Shooting – Either you are plinking in the woods, shooting at a range or in a tournament, GUNMANGER helps you keep track of all your shootings. You can add and manage locations, clubs, membership fees, elevation, weather, ammo count, targets and scores.
Define your targets to compare your shootings. You can also easily import your target pictures into the program and store those together with your shootings.

Address management – Keeping track of dealers, buyers, gun clubs, shooting centers or just your special place outside the city where you like to go shoot – the address manager allows the user to store information about all gun related transactions and activities.

FAQs:

Who is GUNMANAGER made for?
GUNMANAGER is a great program for anyone who owns or is planning to own firearms, for gun store owners, for collectors and military personnel.

Why I developed GUNMANAGER?
I run a small software business, doing databases and individual programming.
But I am deeply into shooting, firearms and outdoors in my ‘other’ live.
A few years back I started with a small program to keep track of my firearms, ammunition, shooting pictures, firearms documents and pictures, accessories and so on. I like keeping track of anything, I like being able to see how many ammunition I have available for a specific gun. I like to know what the accessories I put onto a specific gun did cost me and how they increase the overall worth of the firearm.
Finally I got the time to improve my home used software, to open it to a broader audience…and here I am with the beta version.

Are there any requirements for my computer?
A Windows PC with .net 3.5 is required to run the software.

What will I get for being a beta-tester?
As I really appreciate your time with an unfinished product all beta-testers will have the opportunity to buy the finished product at a discounted price.

But more important - beta-testers can influence the soon to be finished product. I am sure I forgot something some of you want in a firearm management software - in this stage of the program I am still flexible in adding stuff to the software. The final version might have exactly those capabilities that YOU wanted to have in the program.

Will I be able to test the finished product?
Yes - as soon as the final version comes out, there will be a free trial. No one should buy a product without trying/testing first.

Here is a link to some screenshots to get a first impression of the program:

If you have questions or suggestions you can send me an email to [email protected] or write in this thread.

The website will be up and running soon.

As soon as the beta –version is ready, I will update this posting and provide a link for downloading!

Let me know what you think.
Thanks for taking the time!

Question: Is any of this data collected for correlation? If so, what data? Is any attempt to anonymize this data made?

Is any DRM planned? If so, what restrictions will be in place on the software?

Have any IT Security practices been instituted to ensure the program itself is safe?

Sorry, my job is IT Security, so it's my duty to ask. :) It's a neat idea and I hope it works out well.

All the data is on your private pc and I don't collect any data.
The software comes with a version checker, so the only reason the software needs internet is to check if it's up to date.
This function can be turned on and off, but by default it is disabled.

The only DRM is a serial key so the program knows that you have the full version and not the free trial.

The software comes with it's own user management where you can change your password.
Aside from this, the database itself is password protected and it can also be encrypted.

No problem - I hope my answers are helpful - feel free to contact me if there is anything else.

I am willing to try the software

I would be interested in beta testing the software. At one time i used an inventory program called "gun safe" that was free. The program was very basic but covered every category that you would ever need. Your software looks very similar from the screen shots.

Any idea on what the full version will cost when it's available?

What about making your program cross platform without running a windoze emulation?

This would be step 2 - we want the program to work with all possible features and options first, and then release versions for other platforms.

We are just working on pricing - what I can say is, that it will depend on the number of owned firearms...there might even be a free version if you own just a few firearms (but who really does? :) )

In the past I have been a beta tester for various software. Currently I am trying out two different programs designed for firearm inventory and tracking. The two I am trying now each have their own pros and cons, to me the ability to customize reports is most critical. Willing to test fire yours if you need.

I would also be very interested in trying this out.

I have been looking for something similar for a while, but anything I've tried has been about as useful as my homemade Excel sheets

I thought your home state of Massachusetts already did all this. :)
(Sorry, couldn't help it.)

I am an FFL/SOT, I would be I interested in beta testing. I am also an engineer and could provide a technical perspective.

I'd try a beta, too. I hope though that I don't fall in love, then get blown away on the pricing when it becomes "real!"

For the record, I am in software sales, so I see a lot of different platforms, mostly business related.

I am curious if my business could use this software the way we would want to utilize it. I'll give you the simple break down of what we are looking for and you can tell me if it will work?

Background: We are currently prototyping custom firearms components and will soon be going public (well I hope at least). Our three main products in their most basic forms would break down as follows: 1. product 2. product + uppper 3. product + full rifle.

We actually just started looking for some software that can do the following:

- Track Product/Rifle Information (our serial numbers, creation date, price point, notes, etc. etc)

- Track Client Information (primarily for warranty purposes and tax records for sales)

- Pictures for each entry as desired

- *Optional* Track Expense Costs

Let me know...

Edit: Oh wow I missed the link. This software looks fantastic. Are you still offering any beta spots? I'd also like to discuss what you think you are going to be charging.

Hit me up at [email protected] !

I'm glad to see more software developers interested in shooting. I did CamoPicker.

What are you writing in? CamoPicker is written as a C#/Winforms app, but 'm working on converting it to C++ using Qt framework so it can be used on Linux/Apple boxes as well.

We did a lot of individual software programming, when I realized that I spend most of my spare time with shooting and my guns :) ...so I started developing the gunmanager.

CamoPicker looks very cool!

We also did gunmanager in C sharp...thinking about versions for other platforms.

[QUOTE'Dr.Rob']I'd like to take a look at it. [/QUOTE]

Thanks!
As we already got a lot of feedback from our beta testers, we decided to put it on our website for public download as a trial (beta) version.

Any comments or ideas for improvement are very welcome.
