What's your opinion on these two pistols? This will be my first 45acp and I currently have a sig p220 CPO on layaway at my LGS but the have just gotten in a p220 carry in reverse two tone(which I love by the way). It is new and only about $150 more than the CPO. I know that both have the same frame just a shorter barrel on the carry version. Do they shoot much different from each other? If you had the option, which would you buy?

I've owned both. To be honest, my opinion of the two is very similar. Shooting them was very much the same and even carrying them was little different.

While I like the short model, I wouldn't give any more for it than the other one. My 'big' gun was also a CPO and was as good as new. It always was 100% reliable and pretty accurate. Recoil was quite moderate too.

Good luck whichever you pick. BTW, if you would like a bunch of barely used mags, drop me a pm. I'll make you a deal on some.

...

They both have the same grip length but the full size (Commander size) slide is thinner than the shorter thicker/wider slide of the Carry model.

Have shot both, both shoot the same

The P220 Carry is a bit more comfortable when carried in the appendix position.

I found no difference in accuracy between the two barrel lengths.

I found both more comfortable with recheckered plastic grips from Hogue.

Odds are I'll eventually end up owning both, cause that's just the way I am, but I might end up with the carry this time and save for the full size elite or match :)

I have a Carry, Combat and standard model and I think you're making the right choice buying the Carry first. The Carry is an excellent all around pistol. Mine is reliable and accurate with every type of ammunition I've tried including 185gr JHP and 230gr JHP.

Went to my LGS and changed it over to the p220 carry because it gives me options for what I want to use it for. When I got there to look at the gun and decide I found out it had the sweet black wood grips on it. That with the reverse two tone makes it a really good looking gun. I can't wait to finish paying it off.
