Marlin 70PSS?

Following up on this thread, does anyone have any pointers on the pros and cons of a receiver-mounted scope on a Marlin Papoose and/or ideas on mounting a scope to the barrel instead to prevent changes in zero? Thanks!

Not sure there is a down side to barrel mounting, other then maybe not being able to use the iron sight. To me it seems the only logical thing to do if you are not good with iron sights. I am kind of surprised these rifles don't come as an option for barrel mound optics from the factory. The only way I would want one is with the barrel mounted scope, and is why I haven't ordered one as yet.

Or better yet as a complete kit option like they do with some of the other rifles, complete with scope, sling and case. Local shop has one of those special equipped lever 30-30's like that and it is cheaper then the same gun with no sling or scope by about $10 and we can not figure out why.

I bought my 70pss in 2010. Had a problem with dovetail scope mounts holding position no matter how much i tightened. i never liked dovetail mounts and found a paintball picatinney adapter and found a machinist to recut the adapter dovetail slot to fit the Marlin. Slides right on and locks with 2 set-screws. FYI-Marlin does NOT want this receiver drilled and tapped, voids any warranty.
BTW- this is a tack driver with or without a scope right out of the box!!! Best gun going for bugout, backpacking or any aircraft or boat emergency.
It a darn nice plinker too! Buy the stainless model and a few 10rd mags. Great .22 for all around use.

I just noticed that this thread was brought back to life not even a month ago! Unbelievable. I didn't even remember starting this thread.

Update- I still don't have a 70pss, but the girlfriend who was going to be the recipient is now my wife. And she likes my SKS-M anyway. :D

I guess it's true old threads never die. Well It caught my attention and I dug out the papoose for a range trip for the upcoming weekend. I'll attach photos and targets Monday.
