I bought some CCI Blazer 38 Special and 357 Magnum that use a different case I have not seen before. It is a dull silver, almost plastic looking case.
I gather it's a coated brass?
Are these cases any good to reload?

They are probably aluminium. Some are boxer primed and some are berdan. Some reload the boxer primed once and they recycle the berdan.

If the boxes were marked "Blazer", they're aluminum cases. They would have to be labeled "Blazer Brass" to be brass.

The original Blazer aluminum ammunition was primed with a non-standard primer to discourage reloading.

Over the years, I do not know if CCI changed that.

I believe the general consensus is to not reload the aluminum cases, at least that is what I follow.

The CCI Blazer boxes (red/black) I've purchased in the past with the dull gray aluminum cases specifically stated on the outside of the box not to reload. Bet your 38sp and 357 mag boxes saythe same thing. Two reasons - 1) not boxer primed, and 2) aluminum doesn't stretch like brass so will fail when resized and reloaded. Maybe not the first time, but it will fail much sooner than brass. If you bought this to collect the brass, make sure you buy the Blazer Brass (gold/black) type next time.

The newer stuff is boxer primed and though it says not reloadable I can do it once anyway before the casings split. I only use light loads and then only plink with it. If I am in any way unsure if it has been reloaded already it goes into the recycle box immediately. DO NOT try to get more than one reload out of it----not worth the problems you can get.
