Has your gun ever been ridiculed? let's hear it

I've been ridiculed when I was shooting my Enfield No 4 Mk 1, and my Webley Mk VI because they were "obsolete calibers".

Was at a range in Ft. lauderdale, FL when some jokers were talking bad about my Yugo SKS to each other, I ignored them and started watching them shoot their nice Colt AR with a trijicon acog. Joker 1 loaded a 30 rounder and proceeded to fire it off at a target 30 yards out. Once the line went cold I walked out to check how I did @ 50 yards and glanced over on the walk out to see his target had a grand total of 5 shots in it.. Got back to the line waiting for it to go hot and quiped at him, "So hows that shoot" (with a grin ofcourse)

At the Cabela's gun counter a few weeks back, I overheard a firearms expert inform his wife that 9mm's were "girlie guns." (He was easy to overhear -- he was speaking loudly so everyone would know he was a firearms expert.) If any of you sissies want to unload your girlie 9mm HKs, PM me and I'll help you out.

I wouldn't own a girlie 9mm HK....mine is a S&W

I've never had my weapons of choice questioned in person but the internet bashing is sometimes over the top. I won't keep a gun if it isn't reliable no matter who makes it.

It makes no difference what you own or shoot. Those who feel compelled to belittle it are the ones suffering from an inferiority complex. As so many have said, it's not what you have but how you use it.

Somebody once told me my Glock could be disassembled by an attacker, in my hands, while I was still holding it. Yeah, right, whatever. He might have confused it with a scene in one of the Lethal Weapon films (4, I think) where someone did that with a Beretta (which was also total BS).

Not total BS, just requires practice and deft hands with a Beretta. Oh, and a bad guy who's willing to let you approach them close enough to grab the gun without pulling away.

I ain't gonna try it, not with live bullets in the gun and somebody intent on causing me harm holding it. But i did learn the trick well enough to impress an ex-girlfriend by doing it to her (confimed clear and aimed away) Beretta 84 once.

Had a guy come up to me while I was shooting my P229 and told me that Sigs were overpriced and not as accurate as a Glock....I then proceeded to shoot out the X on the target at 25yds. He didn't have a snappy comeback for that!

Automatics guys bash my revolvers.

Yet I've never once had to stop and clear a stovepipe jam.

In fact, at 55 YOA, I've yet to experience a revolver failure of any kind! ... From any revolver of any caliber of any age.

Darn stupid old-timey revolvers!

I've been reading this thread for almost a month now! Slowly but surely, one page at a time every couple days or so. That's basically how I go about reading many of the 10+ page threads, depending on the content

Alrighty, I finally read this whole thread, very amusing! I haven't exactly had any of my guns directly ridiculed, though I have a buddy who gives me -bleep- every chance he can get, for carrying a full-size/full-weight 1911. He calls me 'quaint' and the gun 'outdated.' According to him, 1911s are obsolete and inferior compared to more recent designs. Well in my opinion it's different strokes for different folks. I've shot just about every platform out there and after much thought, consideration, and range time, it's what I feel most comfortable carrying! Another funny fact, is this same buddy doesn't carry his pistol.

I carry a Beretta Tomcat .32acp as a B.U.G. and mine has never been ridiculed, but I've seen a lot of bashing towards them on forums. I understand they have a 1000-2000 round 'life-span,' I bought mine from a family member before the lcp and SW bodyguard existed. I plan to upgrade to a body-guard or J-frame soon as I have the dough, but in all honesty, I can hit playing cards consistently at 30 feet with my Tomcat, and due to the lack of recoil I can also empty the mag quite rapidly one-handed, consistently hitting center of mass on a silhouette target at 20 feet. Also never had any failures of any type at all with it, and I'm well over 500 rounds with it. I only practice once a month with it at the most, as I am a bit wary of that '1000-round lifespan,' but it does what I need it to. Once I get that J-frame or bodyguard, I will shoot the heck out of it til it falls apart, then probably share that information here on the glorious high road

Got ribbed mercilessly, but all in good fun.

everyone says get a colt,bcm,or a stag i say why my sporty works just fine

I just got my NAA super companion yesterday and I've had about ten people say its stupid. Also one of my buddies actually said, "My guns way bigger than that, that things weak." I couldnt respond...

A buddy of mine cried about the recoil on my CZ82, whining about commie guns & such.

Then he pulled out his Lorcin , touting the soft recoil. ..BANG...JAM...BANG...FTE...FTF...and finally the mag fell out...

No words were needed. I never see the Lorcin anymore.

Only twice, I went dove hunting with some folks and couldn't remember where I left my 870 bird barrel so I went with my short barrel. These folks were using fancy over unders or semiautos. I had me a meal of bacon, jalapeno, dove breast bbq'd......they had the same but it was a snack.

I also had a hi point 9mm thats folks used to say was ugly and felt like a brick. Didn't hurt my feelings though. I also thought it was ugly felt cheap and felt like a brick. But I was really happy with the fact that it never failed me, at that time it cost around 120 or so. Cheap, reliable pistol, that is affordable.

I've always thought a functional firearm was the most important. I do lean towards cheaper firearms but some I just don't feel comfortable with. Rohm, raven, lorcin....i'll buy cheap .22 handguns all day. They work good enough for this caliber, I use them where I would like to keep a gun but it's gonna get beat up. Gun in the shed type of thing. A rohm .38 loaded with a couple snakeshot and the rest wadcutters was a big help when I had a rattlesnake crawl out of the mowerdeck of my lawnmower. The gun was 60 bux a snake bite would have been a little higher.

They are not what I would consider quality guns by anymeans but I sure wouldn't pay much for a gun to be kept in the chicken coop or workshop or woodshed.

In the end you buy what serves your purposes and you can afford and hope it fits the bill. Hopefully you did a little research and know what your looking for. Sometimes you just gotta make it work.

My friends used to bash my SKS. Said it couldn't match up to an AR's accuracy, true. But if I can hit a man sized target at 100 yards everytime I pull the trigger I consider that accurate enough.

Then I let them shoot it... they were mostly impressed. Then I told them I got it for $200... now they want their own.

Don't get me wrong I love my AR, but my SKS's are my fun sleeper guns.

People give me crap over my Hi Points haha and I will admit they are ugly...and heavy...but for less than $200 they are worth every penny. I own guns ranging in price from to $100 to $1025 and as long as it hits where I'm pointing I'm happy.

Thats funny, a would be attacker disassemble a Glock while its in your hand?? Wow, well there is one important step in the tear down process with a Glock... you must pull the trigger first!! Haha

I have had more than a few of my guns ridiculed:

"Why are you keeping that as a safe-queen? The only reason to have a gun is to shoot it."

"Who needs a gun that kicks that hard? Are you going dinosaur hunting or something?"

"Mouseguns like that are useless. Worse, they're dangerous."

"That gun has the worst trigger ever made."

"That gun jams all the time. You pretty much have to send it to a gunsmith as soon as you buy it."

"That gun is a joke. It was only made because people are stupid enough to buy it."

Etc. Funny thing is, none of those comments have come at the range. Just here, at THR!

Several years ago, I finally decided to buy and AR-15. I scoped it, and found it was extremely accurate. I was using it as a semi-auto target rifle, and having fun hitting eggs at 200 yards, and getting some really nice groups.

A guy shows up at my club with a 300 Win Mag, and was bragging about the 1,000 yard shots he made hunting with it. He then looks at my AR, and sarcastically asked me "Well what the heck to you shoot with that???. I just replied, "Paper".

I don't understand why some of these "hunter" types look down upon AR's and similar rifles.

Me neither. I've had the same kind of experience more than once.

Just read all the comments on THR about "tacticool" and "mall ninja", and then imagine someone saying those same disparaging comments to a complete stranger at the range. It's happened to me. And it's one of the reason why I have a "no DNR range" policy for my shooting activities. DNR ranges tend to be a focal point for anti-tactical Fudd types. Which is fine, but not when they can't keep it to themselves.

I got cracked on in this forum for my primary HD rifle. Evidently, it has useless stuff attached to it. 11" DSA SA-58 Para.
