In my view, you can't top a Walther PP-series pistol in .22 caliber. It's simply a classic. They also tend to be spendy but worth the price if you want the best.

Good alternatives are the Ruger Mark-series pistols, the Browning Buck Mark series-pistols, the Colt target pistols, and the original Whitney Wolverine. If you look around and stay patient, you can find them at reasonable prices.

Here are three of my favorites.

Sorry slipped the Bearcat in. I have a single six also that I love.

I have three Rugers: Standard, Mark II Target and Mark III Target. They just keep getting better. Inexpensive, reliable, rugged and fun to shoot. Ten minutes with the manual and disassembly and reassembly is a breeze.

Woodsman Match Target is also one of my favorites to shoot, but if I ever owned one it would be a safe queen.
The Colt target match is fully engraved and has Gold inlay. refuse to own a safe queen. gotta shoot them all.

By far my most favorite 22 semi auto handgun is my Hi Standard Victor! I won a lot of pistol matches with it, and it's put a ton of small game in my freezer too... I've owned a LOT of handguns, but not one shot as good as my Victor.

Runner up, is my OLD Colt Woodsman...

Ruger 22/45 then the Ruger MK II is my favorites, I also have a Buckmark it's get some love but not as much as the old 22/45. It probably should be said the 22/45 is suppressed but even then it's never given me any problems and is very accurate as in shooting 12 guage spent hulls at 15 yards, I know it's probably not as good as some people could do but the old Ruger is my go to 22 pistol except for the S&W 15-22p which is a different breed of pistol altogether.

Ruger MKII's, way better than the 22/45 imo. The only time I shoot the 22/45 is when I shoot a halibut. The single sixes are great also.

My pistol is a Sig Trailside and I also like my Savage rifle. My daughter also has a savage cub she regularly outshoots me with.

Ruger 22/45 Mk III. I've added a red dot to help the aging eyes. Need to do the mag disconnect mod and VQ sear and trigger and she should be good to go. Maybe the slingshot mod too...

The only .22 pistol I own (yet) is a MK III 5.5" bull barrel Target model & it's blued because adding $80-$100 more for stainless just didn't appeal to me on such a modest $349 gun (though I paid less on sale).

When it comes to a combo of performance & price, I don't think there is any option that can beat it.

I'll admit the stainless version of this model looks even better. I'm a fan of Ruger and the MK III Hunter with that gorgeous 6.88" fluted barrel and lovely cocobolo grip panels is the most attractive in their line up. The fact it comes with the HiViz sight is also perfect, as I'm not a fan of black on black sights that simply lack contrast I want.

I perfer the heft of the traditional steel frame over the lighter polymer 22/45 version. Also love the distinctive Luger-style grip angle of the entire MK series that's been produced in countless variations continuously since 1949. Seeing how it's stuck around so long & is still a top selling .22 I guess a few others must like it too.

I have 2 Ruger mk2's, one stainless the other blued. However I really like the Kimber 22lr conversion on my SA milspec...Does that count?

Mike

My favorite is a High Standard, model GE. I have many times been impressed with the accuracy of a Ruger Mark II (5.5 bull barrel), though an aftermarket trigger would help.
