I just read through all your posts and comments on Bullseye vs Red Dot as far as burn rates goes and it got me to thinkin.

I load a lot of 12 ga Target loads with Red Dot so I have a ton of it. Well maybe not a ton, but some.
My go-to powders for my 45's are WST for target and Silhouette for SD and Max velocity. It never occurred to me to use Red Dot in my 45, why is that? Duno, but I would like to hear what you guys have to say about Red Dot in the 45, good, bad, etc.

Thanks
Steve

I use 4.2 grains of Red Dot with a 200 grain SWC this is a light and accurate load which functions my 1991a1 Colt and my new Remington R1.45 auto very well.

I used to use Red Dot all the time. With a 185gr bullet, I used a 5gr charge for a target load, and a 6gr (.1gr under max so use your head and double check what I'm writing!) for heavy duty slammer work. Talk about some serious fire show out the end of the barrel with that one!

I have used red dot in my 45acp. With a 230gr lead I used 4.0gr and with a 185JHP I used 5.0. I had good results but now use AA #2 because I have 5 lbs of it and it meters best of any powder I have used

For may years I used 3.8 gr. HS-700X behimd the 185 gr. LSWC for ca 720 fps with excellent accuracy and very soft recoil. I would imagine that a similar or slightly lesser charge of Red Dt would provide similar results.

i use rd in 230gr. plated but for 200gr lead rnfp i found titegroup to work best for me.

I have used 4.6G of red dot behind a 230 LRN for over 25 years and its a great plinking round, it works well in my Autos as well as my Ruger BH.
In the Ruger Auto they chrono right at about 850 fps and about 880 in the Blackhawk. Nice consistant results.
Red dot is a dirty powder but its never been a problem as all my guns get a good cleaning after every trip to the range.
I use the same load behind a 158G LSWC in my 38 Special, another nice round.

iv used 4.0 gns red dot w/ 230 gn lrn,in 1000's of rnds on 45acp, its my go to powder,,i also use 13 gns red dot for my 175 lrn cast 8mm,for 100 yard shooting, you cant get a more accurate load @ 100 yds, good luck

I use Red Dot mostly in my 9mm and had great results in my 92FS, also used it in my Colt Gold Cup Ntl Match with excellent results also, not to mention in my 9mm Hi Point Carbine. It shoots really well in all applications and I haven't found it to be too dirty in any of my firearms, but I clean them after every day on the range.
