I used to have an Eotech 512. I sold it because I couldn't see it all on the brightest setting in the day light outside. Is this the case with all Eotechs & AImpoints? Like I see people put red dots on their .22 , Ar's ect. Can you see them in the day time?

say outside shooting in the desert in AZ?

I ask because I really would like to have a red dot for plinking and such , but only if they make a practical one. I'm hoping I did something wrong with the 512 or it was an exception.

There was something wrong with your EOTech if you couldn't see it outside at max brightness. I can see mine just fine in the Texas sun at noon. Pretty much any major brand red dot/holosight will be plenty bright. Even some of the "non-duty" like primary arms are more then adequate (I picked up a PA microdot for my AK and it's got plenty of brightness for the Texas sun).

Was it a REAL eotech or did you get a red/green reticle Chinese knockoffs. A real eotech should be so bright you'll turn it down on even the brightest days.

no it was the real deal. bought it used off gunbroker, I didn't change colors plus the sight wasn't crisp like the knock offs LED's it was kinda grainy since it was lasers, trust me it was real. It was like 4 years old the guy said.

Could it be since it was old?

Mine is pushing 6 years and has never had that issue. Did you contact L3 about getting it repaired or replaced? Their customer service is excellent, and I've never paid a dime on anything I've needed done.

I did not. I have never used one before until that time so I didn't know how they should work. I just had to ask because I see all over youtube people use them for running courses in the sun. So it got me wondering. Now I really want one again

That does indeed sound unusual. My 512 and EXPS2-2 are both useable in bright sunlight. I would contact EOTech, and see what they suggest. Good folks over there.

You can reach them at 734-741-8221. They're in Michigan, so allow for the time difference.

is it possible it has the wrong battery in it? do they make a lower voltage battery in the same form factor?

Sounds like either the wrong battery or just an OLD battery.
I think most use a 2032. My bushnell Trophy would be dimmer when it got old.
